In the G1 cartoon the Autobots all had blue eyes and the Decepticons had red eyes. I get that it was to help little kids tell the difference between the good guys and the bad guys; it makes sense to have a little visual cue like that, especially when a lot of shots are too close to see a character's faction symbol.
BUT
In Beast Wars most of the Maximals have red eyes. I mean, unlike the G1 toon, their eyes have a lot more variety in color, but MOST of them have red eyes.
Optimus Primal - Red, Red, and eventually Green
Rhinox - Red
Rattrap - Red, Red
Cheetor - Gold, Green, and eventually Red
Dinobot - Red
Tigatron - Red
Airrazor - Green
Silverbolt - Gold
Depthcharge - Red
Tigerhawk - Red
Megatron - Red, Red, and Red
Terrorsaur - Red
Scorponok - Red
Inferno - Red
Quickstrike - Red
Dinobot II - Red
Black Arachnia - Black, Red
Tarantulas - Gold and Gold
Waspinator - Goggles
Rampage - Green
Anyway, that seems really odd to me. I'm just wondering if any of Beast Wars' creators ever mentioned why they decided to go that route.

Most likely because the majority of those eye colors were what their toys had.

Rattrap, Optimus, and Rhinoxs' toys did have red eyes starting out, but Dinobot and Tigatron's toys didn't have red eyes IIRC. And didn't TMI Optimus have yellow eyes in bot mode?
It seems like there was a deliberate choice to make red the default eye color in Beast Wars.

Hence why I said "the majority", not "all".Caelus wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Most likely because the majority of those eye colors were what their toys had.
