But Skids isn't the only one they've skipped. Takara's skipped a whole bunch of Generations toys that Hasbro's released.

True, but most of those skipped were repaints or retools of a mold Takara had at least put out once. I think Skids is the first time they've overlooked an entire mold altogether.

Ah yes, when Saban started milking his popularity for all it's worth, rather than trying to put any real substance into him, or any of the rangers, as a character.william-james88 wrote:I stopped watching power rangers in 1995 when Tommy became team leader.
I'm more partial to TJ, Andros, Leo, Carter, Wes, Jen, Cole, Connor, and Casey, myself.william-james88 wrote:I might have been only seven years old, but even then I found it odd that the cast I had liked changed so much. Jason will always be my leader!
They're not powers as in "super abilities", but powers that allow them to morph into their ranger forms, perform powerful attacks, and summon/use their weapons and zords. And some of them in later series did have some ability-style powers as extras, but those were phased out after a while.william-james88 wrote:PS: this is totally random but I always wondered why they were called power rangers, they didnt have any powers, or did they? Their suits dont give them super karate, since they seem to handle the putties just fine without them. Also, please be in the context that I am asking this from a 7 year old's point of view since I have not watched any of this since then.

Most of the time, yeah. It's rare that they summoned them when unmorphed.william-james88 wrote:Sabrblade wrote:They're not powers as in "super abilities", but powers that allow them to morph into their ranger forms, perform powerful attacks, and summon/use their weapons and zords. They can only summon those in Ranger form? Makes sense but I never realized that. Thanks for the info.

Yes. G1 Crosscut was an e-HOBBY figure created and released in 2002. As a Takara-original figure, Hasbro never released it, with the Generations toy being Hasbro's first release of the character, which came as a surprise to many a fan.william-james88 wrote:Back to Skids, yes he of course had a hasbro release. But did the original corsscut get a release in Japan?
One would think. But then again, Takara also skipped Generations Sky Shadow/Black Shadow, who likewise originated as a Japan-only character.william-james88 wrote:If so, then why wouldnt this new generations crosscut? It would be nice symetry.
There might be an interest in Hasbro figures over in Japan, like either ones that Takara doesn't release or ones that have different enough looks from their Takara counterparts.william-james88 wrote:Other dumb question. Here we are with a Takara thread in an English website. As collectors, we clearly see the value in these toys. To me, they are all premium versions of Hasbro products (for the most part, I still get very sour over Arms Micron 27). However, do you guys think there is as big a hasbro fandom in Japan (as big as the takara fandom we have here). Of course, if they want Skids, then they will need to import him, but I have a hard time picturing them being as excited about Hasbro Tankor or Whirl when they have theirs coming in premium deco and no extra import costs raising the price of the figure.
