The 2019 Tokyo Toy Show has some pretty cool reveals with an extra member of the Piranacon team and now with the reveal of Transformers Masterpiece MP-19+ Smokescreen. This is the cartoon accurate deco. Most of the original logos are removed and very vibrant colours. There is also a different face as well as a new smoke accessory. As with most figures in the MP+ subline, this will be a Takara Tomy Mall exclusive item. That means that while it will be available from your standard local importers, it will not be on Amazon Japan to purchase at a discount. So, it's full price of 8,500 yen ($78.53 USD) will be unavoidable. He will be released in the winter.

I am surprised you are excited about them, I thought you would be very angry at them costing double what combiner components usually cost.

Seriously, the chin on MP19+ looks awful, and I completely prefer the faces on the original MP and the Selects figure

They fixed the parts forming shoulder guns! Darn it was so easy for me to pass these lazy repaints of the original amazing figures up until now. I was much more impressed with the recent redo of bumblebee rather than just painting the original bright yellow but this has my interest. My only gripe is if I cave into this one I might have to buy all the other blue tinted window autobots as well. Sigh*

Seriously though, The Seacons are genuinely something to be excited about. Not the fiftieth "new" redesign of Devastator, the most tired and overexposed combiner in the series. Piranacon has been long forgotten and, if the releases live up to those prototype designs, this could pave the way for the rest of the Transformers Takara has maligned over the years. Maybe Monstructor or Raiden might be next?

Smokescreen looks really sharp with the faux sponsor decals removed. However, that CHIN is just unbelievable! I hope it's just the photography exaggerating it. Smokescreen looks like he watched a bunch of Transformers Animated and got some cosmetic surgery done.

Pre-order is up on Anime-Export for $100.

I think Plus Bluestreak and Smokescreen look good with the new accessories and expressions but not for twice than what I paid for the originals, which I'm still happy with. Additionally, Plus Sideswipe and Prowl didn't get the same treatment.

I appreciate Takara's incorporating the bots' "permanent" weapons into their transformations. Though now was their chance to give Smokescreen's cannons articulation at the neck so they could point up.

The facial expressions make him even more, well, expressive.

And I like how they painted the insides of his legs black.

Meh another money grab move, Takara is starting to become like Hasbro. Nice for people that missed out on him the first time around, but nothing to justify buying him again.

What we do need is a re-issue of Takara Legends Weirdwolf with fixes to the dang hinges that breaks on everyone sooner or later.
