I've been out of the Diaclone loop for a while, since the line has so many redecos and different version of the main mechs, so imagine my surprise when I saw the Waruder suits and watched the videos...

Ticked all of my boxes

Not into army-building that much, but if I could, I'd make an exception for them, and (try to) make some (awesome?) combinations...

Man! Life gets in the way sometimes. Both my daughter's birthdays in the same week, the kickoff of a complete gut-to-the-studs kitchen remodel, and a trip south to see family and Renn Fest has kept me from any serious Collect-O-Troning.

I have been fiddling with these baddies, and they are wonderfully weird and awesome. Wish I had followed Wilco's philosophy and ordered more. I'm sure the opportunity will arise.

Yo, diaclone buddies.

I think I finally want to try my hand at some Diaclone. Where should a brother start?

I was thinking about that DA-19 Land Battlecruiser cause it looks awesome, even though it only forms the legs to a far more expensive robot mode. I was also looking at some of those Bike sets, Maneuver Sky Jets, and DA-31 Raptor head. But I'm not sure where to start.

I don't want to go big, I want a sample of some sweet stuff. I don't want to complete anything nor buy a bunch, merely get some decent samples to have some fun with. Transformation to a robot is a huge plus, but not required if it is fun.

So yes, please help!

I suggest a Powered Suit, either the regular versions (A,B,C,D,E) or one of the manoeuvre types (Alpha, beta, gamma). A gyrosceptor or dart loader would be nice as an extra, or the trooper set that comes with 2 bikes.
Maybe a Waruder suit so you have an enemy as well. This is all stuff that's out and available already.
The raptor head won't be out until February so you'd have to wait for that one.

To me, Diabattles is kind of the quintessential piece from the line so far. He really sums up the spirit of what Diaclone was all about, but he is not cheap. Worth every penny in my opinion, but expensive none the less.
I agree with Wilco, that the Powered Suits are a great place to start. They're small and fun. I know you like the idea of human piloted Mechs. I would maybe start with a Diaclone figure before jumping into any of the Waruder stuff. In the long run the Diaclone suits would integrate better into your TF collection as a one off should you decide the reboot isn't really your cup of tea.

The bikes and that land battlecruiser still look really cool though. can the suits interact with the battlecruiser?

Well, I'm waiting out the next paycheck, and then I have 2 suits I wanna buy to try out. Debating getting the land battlecruiser to go with them cause it looks so cool
