Just a question, did they interact much in the movie before he became Rodimus Prime?

Aside form Prime's deathbed and Magnus' resurrection on Junk they had no scenes together.

To be fair, that's a pretty decent chunk of 'Hot Rod's' entire Existence

Man! I'm usually Mr. Hip Hip Hooray, Gimme Gimme Gimme, but he might be a little TOO toon accurate for my tastes. But I'm sure once they slap some flames on it, I'll forget I ever said that.

If it follows recent trends, there should be a couple of decos.


The idea of decoing him as Sideburn seems to be a U.S. thing.

I expect...

Standard Hot Rod (toon).
Black Rodimus (because this is pretty common).

And I may go out on a limb and suggest they'll do comic book color Hot Rod with alternate G2 faction stickers. (I'd like the Fleetway G2 color scheme as it's more distinct. But Marvel G1/G2 Rodimus would be pretty cool.)





He did have a slightly different coloration in Fleetway's comics and as a Targetmaster in Marvel's. Notable bluer purple and an orange collar.

I could see a collar sticker, alternate faction label, and targetmaster partner Firebolt.

This was a fast and dirty photoshop I did of the Fleetway G2 look (since you don't see too many clean shots of him, full body).

Call me a horrible Cynic but I expect that Either Hasbro will make a version of this with a Targetmaster or Takara will make a version for a show like the Tokyo Toy show with a Targetmaster and many people will be conned into buying it twice - once to get the normal guns and once to get the Targetmaster.

I'd not put it past them to do the same with Kup & Blurr too - I would guess Kup and Blurr, Arcee, & Springer would all be desirable for them to do as they don't have to pay license fees on them.

I think They want to have their cake and eat it though - but if the make the two version they will inevitably make different shades of red I'll at least then be a little more understanding... I'd quite like a magenta Targetmaster Hotrod toy and yet a crimson Red looks better in Animated Movie toy terms.

I do feel a little sorry for Takara as the Third party scene has shot their fox on the Dinobots and Headmasters... It's not at all likely that a Takara Headmaster can be anywhere near as good as the existing large Chromedome is.

Not that I'd mind a smaller one however.

So treading the path of the 1980 Animated Movie and Targetmasters from the headmasters Show is actually a good idea as no one else seems to bothered the only decent sized Blurr is an IDW derived design for example. If they want to make MP scale Decepticon Targetmasters I'd be up for that. but I can't see that happening to soon - even though it would complement Titan Wars rather nicely.

I do sort of Expect them to do Springer and Arcee reasonably quickly - also one of the larger item slots must be reserved for the likes of Super Ginrai and Victory Leo too.

P.S.

I expect the chest is actually going to be that plain with the chest flames and logo all done via a tampograph.

The vehicle mode front end is a little odd looking though around the front bumper

Whoa... what is fleetway g2? I personally hate repaints and variety and only like the iconic versions, (I would not buy it again for the target gun)

HOWEVER that blue with yellow... I LIKE that look!!! Never seen a blue one before!

There was a Generation 2 Hardcover "Annual" back in the 1990's in the UK - I guess that is what they mean.
There was a UK G2 comic as well but I have no specific recollection of Hot Rod being in it - but then all I do really remember was it had the Decepticon Stormtroopers in it I've forgotten the rest of it by now - I tend to treat G2 more as an idea than a specific set of stories.

But yes purple is an interesting colour scheme for Hotrod. I'd buy that as a toy for sure (even more so if it was The Vintage mould).

His kibble brings flashbacks of when I owned the Hasbro MP TRU Rodimus. I had some issues keeping the "wings" and back kibble in one steady piece if I'm phrasing that right.

Even still, I like the overall look of him quite a bit.

Not being a parts former so back kibble is a given. If Tt put too much on his shins, it would look like he's wearing a small tank boot then we'll all get even more complaints.

I just hope Hotrod's foot parts can support the weight similar to Legends Jetfire.
