He had brain cancer. He was 77 years old. To the best of my knowledge, he didn't run for president in the 60s like his brothers, because he was threatened with an assassination like so he became a Senator from Massachusetts. He did run in the 1980 campaign but lost the nomination to Jimmy Carter. Could he have beaten Ronald Reagan?
