TFC Dr. Crank working crane

Postby FurStreak » Wed Jun 06, 2012 3:13 pm

OK so i didnt get to make a video and i used my iphone 3gs to take the pics, unfortunately they arent that good of pics but I did manage to lighten them up in photoshop. I just added some string to the already added crane hook part that came with the toy. I used some lead fishing line (small MM) I got from walmart. It was the perfect size and made of I think nylon so you can burn it at a low temp and fix it in a permanent knot or make it sharp to place it on the toy easier. No progression pics, sorry. just some fun I had with the toy after putting it on.

Is that the right way to do it? I just have the one string going through all the loops ... I admit it gets tight in the end part.

Yep! If you look at the toy closely (the crane part) youwill notice that along the end of each section is a hole. the string is placed through them as guides. it then uses the first pully wheel at the end to reduce friction and snapping from going over a sharp or blunted edge (does not fit around the wheel, it just dangles over it as a guide) The string then wraps through/arounda bottom wheel moving up to another then back down, and repeat until the string comes back up to finally rest/knotted to an underside loop on the end beam of the crane.

the more loops there are from the crane end to the pully hook below will cause the end weight result to be lifted, multiplied. In short, the more pully wheels the more weight can be lifted at one time. but you will also have to pull that much more rope in order to get it up. each loop = X amount more times in distance you have to pull the rope

hope that clears it up for ya :D and no im not being a smart ass, I just grew up around heavy machinery, one being a **** MONSTER of a crane.

Nicely done, but the reason for the poor quality of the pictures is that the light source is behind the figure.

Look at your first pic (from this quote)...see that silver square peg? It plugs into the purple piece to more easily wind the string up.

So I used the 4th party "string" product and it works great.

Granted, I'll probably never actually use it after today, but it's ncie to have the built-in ability to be a working crane in there. Thanks for the pics.
