I pre-ordered the first two and just pre-ordered SR-71 Blackbird a few hours ago. Looking at this latest reveal for the set I'm beginning to wonder if this is worth the money. F15 Eagle & F4 Phantom don't seem to be able to store the Superion hands and feet and SR-71 Blackbird looks like a block with a jet fused to its back like the 80's toy.

The Hercules set was fantastic and is one of my favorites but that quality engineering doesn't seem to present with the Uranus set.

Anyone else getting second thoughts about this one?

Err... if you're questioning it's worth and value to you already, you definitely should NOT preorder... that is, unless you have a load of money to waste. This isn't what I consider a casual purchase. Just wait till it's all completely revealed (possibly reviewed) and make your purchase then if you decide you really want it.

in this sub forum of seibertron we do things a little differently, each 3rd party product or in the case of Uranos, set of products gets its own topic for discussion and updates. your concern with preordering this set would be better expressed in this topic:

http://www.seibertron.com/energonpub/tfc-toys-project-uranus-superion-updates-t86568.php-

Everyone who has posted in that topic will receive an email letting them know a new post has been added and will check back!

as for your concern with the feet, these figures are meant to be Scramble City style (just like G1) meaning that the robots that make the arms and limbs are entirely interchangeable with eachother (legs can be arms, arms can be legs). To do this the best way is to have seperate hands and feet that plug into the limbs. You wouldn't want them to force a foot or hand into those sleek jet modes would you? The difference with Hercules was that the limbs for the most part didn't actually form feet, you got the cab of a dump truck and the scoop of a bull dozer. and lets be honest, that cab was a bit of a stump.

The drone that is attached to the SR-71 is completely removeable in alt mode so you don't have to keep it on if you don't like it.

And as an owner of Hercules i must disagree with you on the quality of engineering. from vehicle to robot mode the figures sort of just unfolded, not very complex. vehicle to gestalt was a little more involved but still folding and plugging together.

Go through that link above and take a look at the images of the arm and leg modes of the robots and consider that they also form really sleek jets.

And Welcome to the 3rd arty forum, we're happy to have you!

Never had anything to do with Scramble City, should I check it out? After the combiner teams from Beast Wars, RiD and so on this just seems like a step backwards for me. But then, any tf toy that doesn't incorporate all components into the alt mode(s) is a step backwards for me. This is just my personal opinion is all.

I agree about the transformation, but wasn't talking about that. Everything is incorporated into the toys, except for the weapons, but at least they have ports to be plugged into. Everything the gestalt requires in built into the 6 toys and (to me) they look great in all modes, everything just works.

As was pointed out by breakdown99, Herc set my sights kinda high and I just needed a reality check. These toys, for the most part, will be a nice fit for my Classics collection

What is this obsession todays collectors have with intergrated weapon storage ???

Detachable feet and fists = less ugly robot/jet kibble

That's how it was with G1 toys and nobody complained.

Heres my "parts storage". I think it looks ten times better than any extra kibble would look on my figures.

As far as Silverbot being a block with a jet mounted on top, So was Universe Ultra class Silverbolt. Same with ROTF Jetfire in Blackbird mode. The silm jet body just doesnt provide the parts needed to make a decent robot. They did pull it off with G1 Octane, but that had alot to do with how the truck parts flipped around. But the nice jet mode gave the robot mode crappy legs and feet. You cant have youre cake and eat it too. But if I were you Id keep that pre-order. Uranus will be tight, trust me. ;)

Comparing today's engineering to that of the 80's is kind of an apples to oranges type thing don't you think, X?

Personally, and I know I'm in the minority here, I hate the scramble city gimmick. I think making each limb a quadruple changer takes away from the figure. The scramble city gimmick is the biggest problem with FoC Bruticus, to me anyway. .

You can't keep comparing modern toys to G1, the technology has improved a lot since then. It isn't an obsession, at least not for me, just a preference. There have been some really nice combiner teams in the past that have incorporated everything the gestalt needs and have had little to no kibble. Or the kibble has been done in a way that didn't look to bad.

Rated X wrote:Heres my "parts storage". I think it looks ten times better than any extra kibble would look on my figures.

That's nice, but I'd rather not have to do that. Again, my preference.

I have Universe Ultra class Silverbolt, it's not bad, but not being a combiner was a letdown for me. Never got ROTF Jetfire so can't comment. The main problem I have is that designers keep doing the same thing with this type of toy, I just feel that if more of the jet was used for the robot (kinda like the legs on PRiD Vehicon) then there would be less kibble under the jet mode. I'm not expecting miracles, just a new take on something that has been repeated for around 25 years now.

Not sure G1 Octane is a good example; very few toys from that era had good leg articulation.

Oh, I've decided to keep my per-order. I do want this guy now :D

I guess my personal preferences dont include "engineering". I display my collection in robot mode and rarely transform them. I dont really "play" with them or marvel over how designs have advanced over 25 years. For me they are just eye candy to enjoy over an ice cold beer. There are some aspects of the G1 cartoon about transformation thats better off left to the imagination. I was never bothered where these parts would store if the cartoon was real life. It kind of takes away from the enigma of the cartoon to ponder how to re-create futuristic technology in the form of a present day toy.

On the Blackbird and concorde, the fusalage doesnt really allow much flexibility for a robot. They are both basically a tube with wings and a tail. Fighter jets have more of an "undercarriage" that makes it a little more easy to pull off. Good choice on keeping the pre-order. ;)
