Before Darkest hour aired on hub, i recall a spoiler for season 3 saying one of the autobots will be joining the decepticons. I remember back then, a lot are speculating its gonna be Smokescreen. It seemed although unlikely, but it was plausible considering he is new, and we highly doubt that any of the original gang would turn to decepticons.

But after watching season finale, seeing how devastated ratchet was compared to the rest, i could help but wonder...could ratchet be the one?

We can see maybe some foreshadiwing before, like when arcee and bulkhead was sad about leaving earth, ratchet convinced them they can always contact them later. Ratchet was not "missing" earth and their earth friends. Although he did not hate or disliked thw kids or the planet, he's not really that attached either. He always missed cybertron. His anger over the omega lock destruction was kinda mirrors starscream's too.

Could ratchet be the one to join the decepticons?

Actually, the spoiler went both ways. Autobots joining Decepticons, Decepticons joining Autobots.

But I think Ratchet's pissed off the most out of all of the Autobots right now. I think he's pretty much lost all hope.

But not to the point he would join the Decepticons. He may have walked away from his friendship with Optimus, but I don't believe for an instant that Prime sacrificing Cybertron would be the catalyst for Ratchet to join the Decepticons.

If anything he'll go it alone, probably team up with Wheeljack.

I definitely agree. Ratchet's been around a long time and been through a lot, and this was definitely a blow that will take a while to recover from, but it doesn't really feel in his nature to switch sides. Walk away from everything completely, yeah, but not switch sides.

Huh, who could be the one, then? Would Starscream risk it? Megatron's non-vehicon team is dwindling. Is it just Soundwave, Knockout, and Starscream left?

Ratchet's been a member of the A/bot cause since the beginning, fighting with the motivation that Cybertron will be restored to Autobot sentiments eventually. This belief would have been challenged many times before TFP.

He's now basically lost his reason to carry on; Been stripped of the reason that he joined the war effort.

Joining the Decepticons (willingly) at the moment wouldn't fit his persona: There is no capability to restore Cybertron with them, so no motivation for Ratchet to join. Even if the Deceps had the tools to restore Cybertron, there would still be the Autobot option to steal them away from the Decepticons.

His character has been increasingly impatient lately and this may grate now that they are all fugitives, if not with the other A/bots then with the Humans themselves. Optimus did spend his last moments with Ratchet ordering Ratchet to save himself and Wheeljack (who crash landed in convenient vicinity of Primes' remains) did give a gesture of true friendship to Ratchet in that final battle, so things are set up to let Ratchet soul search and then neatly come back home. We'll see what happens.

I don't think it's possible. Ratchet knows who is responsible for destruction of Cybertron in first place. And if he was'nt pissed enough after Optimus doing was revealed, he do'nt betray Autobots with cold blood. He seems to be to much attached to Optimus (He seems to be really sad about Optimus decision to defend the base) to simply switch sides.

I don't know why you hate him so much, I mean he is still far better than his Movie counterpart. Unlike in Bayformers, here Optimus IS a warrior, not a good guy who pretends to be a warrior and have unlimited amount of luck. And also, despite all, he seems to at least care about Cybertron. He also sometimes failed, made mistakes... This is a huge step already.

What if Ratchet joins up with Wheeljack and the two find Grimlock in a stasis pod. They wake him, and the trio form their own team. Perhaps Ratchet and Wheeljack spend most of the third season with Grimlock searching for the rest of the Dinobots?

Would certainly be a nice, somewhat subtle, G1 reference.

And no, I don't think Ratchet is going to join the 'cons, for all the reasons the others mentioned.
