Please take into consideration:
-accuracy to the character
-proper size
-weapons/accessories/gimmicks
-pricing
-availability
-number of repaints
-pieces in the line
and whatever might specifically stand out to you.
Also, please *exclude* the Masterpiece line. (Quite frankly, Masterpieces are NOT toys, and it would be unfair)

For your consideration:
beast forms
several planets represented
new characters new stories
super modes / super links
target masters / minicon combiners
Vector Prime, Unicron, and Primus represented
cyber key gimmick (hit or miss)
ratchet joints / evolution of articulation
a varied array of alt modes (from Longrack to Metroplex - Cryo Scourge to Sideways; epic)
second to none head sculpts
I really don't have to say it but, in all caps: SUPREME CLASS CORONATION STARSCREAM.
Wake up son, the Cybertron line will go down in Transformers history as Generation 3.

Or,
Alternity:
-accuracy to the character
The toys are the original versions of the character, so big points here.
-proper size
They are all 1/32 scale.
-weapons/accessories/gimmicks
Some nicely integrated weapons, and neat transformation gimmicks.
-pricing
They aren't cheap, but worth every penny.
-availability
Pretty easy to import any figures you want from the line.
-number of repaints
All of the repaints make sense in the canon.
-pieces in the line
Some fresh takes on a core group of characters.

Beast Wars
In the beginning, I wasn't feeling them. I started liking them during the Transmetals phase, and I got hooked, backtracked and got the first BW toys where I could find them on sale or on clearance. I love the poseability. I liked that over the G1 statues I owned. The newer molds in the Japanese BE shows and their slightly more accurate repaints of the Transmetals hooked me too.
Wasn't happy with Beast Machines.
RID/A/C/E to me are hit and miss.
Classics is still great, but a few are way out of line, like GalVatron and Bumblebee. The recent Primes are way too small. Should have been voyager size.

I can't really give an informed opinion on this one. I only have:
G1 - 3 figures
G2 - 0
RID - 0
Armada - 0
Energon - 1
Cybertron - 3
TFTM - 0
ROTF through present - HUNDREDS
Japanese equivalents of the above - 0
I'll necropost this thread in a couple years when I've bought and learned more, lol.

Haha, I am to the core. But that doesn't mean what I like is always the best, and the question certainly is not "your favorite transformers toy line".. Cybertron/Galaxy Force was the last to use the non-brittle crap plastic, and is just dynamic altogether. As much as I'd love to invest in that line, I'm just not interested in the characters.
Now, Micron Legend... the thrill of spending hundreds on one exclusive mini-con. The thrill of opening blind packed mini-cons... yeah, I'm all for that.

If you have RID Prime then you must have Ultra Magnus because nothing is more awesome than Omega Prime. I think there's a law that says so.

So many G1 originals have been reborn in this line with G1 accurate figures, alt modes, paint jobs and with the bonus of greatly improved posability and articulation.
Ok, not all of the figures still have their G1 alt modes, in some cases the paint jobs have been way off and some figures have had almost no resemblance to their G1 selves but these are the minority.
The majority of figures in these lines have been very faithful to G1 and are superbly done providing us G1 fans with an awesome selection of our favourites to get.
Like so many other fans, I'm already looking forward to the next series of Classics Transformers. Long may these lines continue!

Generations are the better toys no doubt, but they're just another extension of G1 in my opinion, as is Armada and Energon to a lesser extent. I can't stand the Animated or Bay-formers toy designs.
Oh, and before everyone starts, I'm probably heavily biased by nostalgia, rightly or wrongly. I just don't have the same emotional attachment to the later TF toys as I do with my G1's, and that to me is the most important thing.

that said i have to say i think the original classics run (mostly due to its spiritual successor lines, Universe, Generations, etc.) was the best, especially considering that it was just a filler line until the 07' movie line. hell, if it weren't for classics i wouldn't be collecting today!
