The Decoy Project

Postby Antimus Prime » Fri Feb 16, 2007 2:09 pm

I have recently acquired some decoys, and I decided to have a crack at painting them to how they should look (rather than being all one colour)

I have done Shrapnel, Kickback & Bumblebee so far, and I am currently working on Tracks, Brawn (though I have just ran out of green paint!) and Jazz.

Hope u like!

They look good. Just out of curiosity, what pants are you using for them?

I use some acrylics called 'Minature Paints' which I get from a local shop. They are cheap, but great to work with - i.e. they dry quickly and smoothly. Thanks for the comments guys.

Once I have done the 'original' series, I aim to do some repaint figures - I already have 2 Frenzy figures to work with to make Frenzy & Rumble. I will be hopefully do the following in time (subject to availability of decoys);

Stepper (Jazz repaint)
Twincast (Blaster)
Soundblaster (Soundwave)
Hauler (Grapple)
Artfire (Inferno)
G2 Sideswipe (Sideswipe)
Buzzsaw (Laserbeak)
Sunstorm (Seeker repaint)

I'm not going to do such likes as the e-hobby Blitzwing, Insecticons or Hound - that's going too far, and I won't be doing white Prime into Magnus - think everyone is sick of those! May do the G2 Dinobots, if I'm not sick of painting decoys by then!

As for the paints, they come in small jars - I have only ever seen them in the shop local to me. I made the flames for my AM Stepper by putting the design onto a sticky label (the kind you find in all offices) and just painting the design, then cutting it out and sticking it to the figure.

Why do you guys keep on calling the black Jazz repaint stepper when Hasbro named hin Ricochet?

Force of habit, I s'pose. After all, he's been Stepper for positively yonks; Ricochet's a relatively new thing...

It's his original name. I think the name Ricochet actually came from one of the Targetmaster partners and was just reused for the US release.

It may have been his Japanese name, but then again Jazz' Japanese name is Miester. Shouldn't we be using his American name?

I never even heard of him until Richochet came out. So, that analogy isn't entirely accurate. Also, Hasbro did change Optimus Prime's name. It was originally Convoy in Japan. That was the original Japanese Diaclone name, and the one Japan still uses i the Transformers line. Hasbro changed it to Optimus Prime. Many of the characters have different names in America than in Japan. The Japanese "Stepper" is the American "Ricochet".

well for the some of us he was firstly stepper, you cant teach an old dog new tricks

what i ment was if hasbro changed priems name from the cartoon, again most peple will have known him as optimus prime before convoy

Most people in America know him as Optimus Prime. Ask anyone in Japan who he is, and they'll say Convoy. It is the same thing here. Hasbro changed the character's name from his Japanese name to an American name. In America, that black Jazz repaint is Ricochet, not Stepper. In Japan, he is Stepper, but, here, in America, it is Ricochet..

I think that point is totally moot and he should call the figure whatever he wants.

I think you should display these at BotCon beside M_Sipher's Heroes of Cybertron Homebaked PVCs. (repainted into alternative colors/characters)

Yeah, I noticed that about I week after I posted it, and uncharacteristically didn't instantly go back and change it.
I'm tempted to do it now, just to make you look silly... :P
