The Matrix = Cosmic Flashlight/USB Drive
Power Coins = Bitchin' costume, teleportation, and a giant robot to take to the store.
I'd have to side with the Power Coins on this one.

I hate to say it, but you're right.
The Matrix is only worth anything when up against pure evil (ie Unicron). The power coins also stand for good guys, so the Matrix won't help.

Two different Matrices, (And yes, that is the plural form of "Matrix") dude. You can only pick one. RID Matrix and G1 Matrix are completely different.

So if Hotrod had 5 power coins in his change holder, would he have kept Prime from dying in the movie? 
Still i gotta go with the coins on this. the morphin-grid seems to grant powers easier than Primus is willing to, less we forget Magnus getting pwned by an army of sweeps.
the bw neo matrices might be as useful though. everyone with a convoy paint job and matching faceplate had one in here...

The Morphing Grid is a complex ancient web of cheap special effects in the center of the Earth. The Power Coins, being the primary keys to activating the Morphing Grid, probably have more power than ANY other morpher in Power Ranger history, even if there are mor epowerful rangers.
So Matrix loses.
BTW Tommy's Green and White Ranger powers were never linked to the Morphing Grid, that was basically his only weakness.
That and short shorts.
