Keep at it. If a player's pushing you, report them. If not, just keep building up your defences until they're dead in the water.
It won't be long until I'm space-worthy. Hold on till then, and I can send you all of my air support (what, with my own system being fairly quiet and all).

So far, the lv.4 Impulse drive that is needed to get a cruiser costs 16K metal, 32K Crystal, 4.8K Deut, and 8 hours to research
(While a Coloniser Ship costs 10K Metal 20K Crystal and 10K Deuterium)

Looks like it's gonna take quite a few robotics lab upgrades to get things running smoothly.
I highly recommend going for the nanite lab first then; see if that majorly chops the build times.

I only have the first several levels because I am a n00b. Note that this is for metal mines. Crystal mines require the same energy and deuterium stations take twice as much. Crystal mines output 67% as much resources as metal of the same level, and deuterium produces only 42% as much as metal.

Anyone have any tips on when I could expect to have to defend myself or maybe a guide on general build practices? I have been specifically aiming to get a shipyard on my planets, now that I have the option on one I realize it will take a while to build and I wonder if I should just build more mines and do a rapid deployment of defense by saving up and building alot of robot factories first.
You guys are further along with all of this, any advice would be awesome.
- Update - Wow, for some reason I was misreading shipyards as being 4 hours to build when they are only 4 minutes. lol, not really gonna slow me down that much then after all.

Yeah that'll keep them away.
A win/loose tactic I've been using is to always spend so there isnt too much of a resource surplus. The good: No one wants to bother with my defenses to get less than 7k total of resources. The bad: In order to upgrade my buildings or research an expensive tech I have to wait for a big score to come in.

Still, I've managed to afford 2 rocket launchers (meager i know), and I've shut down all my mines. I've spent what I can on research and defense.
The most they'll get is a headache and some crystals.

I think they were banking on me having no defences, because only one rocket launcher was built in time.
