The Official Transformers: Animated Discussion Thread!
Re: The Official Transformers: Animated Discussion Thread!
I changed the title of the news story as well as some of the content of the post on the front page.
PLEASE - can we keep the news as OBJECTIVE as possible?
Don't tell me the series was "that good", or it deserves a "wow" on the front page - just give me the facts and let me decide for myself. The news crew's job is to report the news; opinions go in the forums, not on the front page.

I watched it. I did go in with an open mind, hopping that even thou the artwork was lacking... well everything.
There was only one good point. The guy that is voicing Starscream was fantastic.
Everything else was a huge let down. I give it a year... and thats for more than it should get.

I too went in open minded, but less of a TF fan and tried to set my worries from BotCon aside.
I am happy to say that all those preconceived notions I had from BotCon until now have been put soundly to sleep.
There really wasn't any thing I didn't like. I do kind of wish that Prime's Earth mode was any kind of semi, and looked less like the Cybertron Prime.

I gave it a three out of five. Get rid of the kid and it would get a four. I loved Starscream and megs. Don't like prowl, bulkhead and BB's voices.
Blitzwing SUUUUUUUUUUUUCKSS!!!!!
The worst idea ever. The Arnold face is going to be terrible. So will the pumpkin one.

Well I gotta say I was quite impressed with the show. There was lots of G1 references and plenty of action. The animation itself I felt was kind of choppy, but still it works. I was hoping we would get to see more of Blitzwing but he definately made himself known with his "conversation" with Black Arachnia. LOL

AMAZING!!!!!!
I LOVED IT. BETTER THAN I EVER THOUGHT. YA GOT EVERYTHING. CURRENT POPULAR ANIMATION FOR CARTOON NETWORK. ACTION. REMNENTS OF THE G1, INCLUDING BACKGROUND MUSIC. GREAT VOICES. SURE, IT'S DRAWN FOR KIDS. BUT, C'MON. IT'S BETTER THAN ANY OF THE SERIES SINCE BEASTMACHINES. ( YEAH. I WAS A BM FAN TOO.) THERE ARE SO MANY OPTIONS FOR STORY LINES. THEY'RE BACK. AND, IN MY OPPINION) BETTER THAN EVER. EVEN THE HUMOR IS GOOD.

Re: The Official Transformers: Animated Discussion Thread!
The show takes place after both g1 and beast wars and beast machines not that it makes any difference. I loved what ended up happening to megatron after he crash landed on earth. But I thought optimus prime's earth mode was supposed to have a trailer of some sort oh well it was great a perfect 5/5 bring on the rest of the season.

COMPLETELY DIFFERENT CONTINUITY
Solid 9,9/10 from me.
Negatives:
- Some humans had ghost-like eyes
- the autobot insignia could be drawn sometimes...
Positives:
- everything else

Re: The Official Transformers: Animated Discussion Thread!
There are a few spoilers below, so feel free to skip this post until you see the show...
I thought it was pretty good for the most part. Much better than all the brain dead dubbed TF garbage we've seen over the past few years.
Starscream was great. The voice was great. His characterization was spot on. He and Megatron seem to be the main reasons I'll tune in again.
I liked most of the Autobots. They all have cool weapons and have very distinct characters. Ratchet was good as the gumpy vet. And Bumblebee works for me, even with the little girl.
Some of the voices were pretty bad, IMHO. Blitzwing as just dumb. Bulkhead's voice really didn't seem to fit his... bulkiness. But I liked the character.
The biggest weakness I see as far as characters go is Prime. Makes it hard to like him. To me Prime is a wise, strong, father-type. Not a snot nosed punk. Like others have said, leave that to Hot Rod. And Prime's voice is terrible. Actually, he sounds a lot like Michael Bell's G1 Prowl. I'd be happy if they switched the Prime voice to the new Prowl. It's sad that Cullen is wasted on the bumpers for the show. Lending his voice to this Prime might have made him more likable for me.
As for the animation, it's fine. A little too Teen Titans in places for my tastes, but not unwatchable. The action sequences are fine. The Autobots' rubbery car modes is kinda strange but I guess it fits this kiddy style art direction. The human characters seem fine too. The adult human designs are pretty good, I think. The kid designs are pretty weak, though. The overall look of the show isn't what I'd wish for in a TF cartoon, but it'll do.
On another bright side, I'm actually glad they decided to "kill" Prime and revive him right off the bat. At least that's out of the way. LOL.
I'll watch it again.

Re: The Official Transformers: Animated Discussion Thread!
Hi all,
First post here -- long short of it, I loved the episode. Does not even compare to the dreck of the last 5 years or so. This was great animated entertainment in the style of "The Incredibles" -- smart, action packed, and intense. Great voices too.
The one thing I'd like to add is that I do think there has to be *some* connection to G1. After all, they show an old episode and acknowledge it as "history"! The very definition of continuity, IMO. Maybe they'll explain just how much of a connection there is in the future, but I got the feeling that Ratchet was the original G1 Ratchet (Prime even says to him, "You saw some action in the Great War," or something similar to that) and Megs and Starscream are originals as well. We'll see.
Great show!
Dan

In my opinion, the show was pretty damn good!
Animation, sound, voices, all perfect!! Tom Kenny is the bomb!!! Compared to the Unicron Trilogy, this is just soooooooooooooooooo awesome!
3 questions:
If this takes place after G1 and all that, then is this Optimus different from the G1 Optimus Prime?
Why were Spike and his family in Detroit, and they didn't go talk to the Autobots if this continues from G1
And why does Ratchet act SOOOOO much like Kup???!!!

I pass on this particular show. The G1 stuff was interesting but thats about it for me. My 4 year old was not in the slightest interested in watching. Prime is a nobody. Prowl is a self centered weakling. The rest... well I just did not like it.

While I won't post a link, it should be known that those who know how should be able to find it on the torrent sites and emule/edonkey sites. That's how I got it
I thought it was pretty darn cool. I agree that the animation of the humans is a bit off-putting, but the show caters to a certain audience, and whether we like it or not, adults are not the core audience of the show.
Writing wise... all I can say is THANK GOD an American writer is on this for a change and that it isn't dubbed. That's not to say that Japan has bad writing, but the quality I've seen put out from the American dubs of such cartoons has left a lot to be desired.
I do believe we have a hit on our hands, folks!

I must say, I'm very impressed. The nods to G1 are all over the place, and the writing is fantastic. (in fact, I see the writing as a G1 homage in and of itself) Let me point out a few nods.
G1 Footage
Allspark looks like the matrix
Starscream having the exact personality he should
The art style (some may argue otherwise, but look closely and you'll see it.)
And of course prime's "death"

How many times must this be said? This is a separate continuity! The G1 footage, references, and cameos are just nods to the fans.
If I'm wrong, then explain to me how the Witwickys can live 100 years without aging? This takes place in the 22nd Century, G1 season 3 takes place in 2006/2010, in the 21st Century!

I think it's more of a prequel to G1, as all the characters-discounting Ratchet and Ultra Magnus-seem much younger
And I have no idea why they chose Ratchet to be the Kup-like character.
