I can't wait for this movie. I know it will not be a mega hit but then again it doesn't have to be. I read it only cost $35M to make, which in Hollywood is chump change. The loyal fan base and curiosity moviegoerers will make this a hit in its own right!!
Can't wait.
Can't wait.

I'm mixed on this
I loved the X Files when it was on but its been nearly a decade since we seen the show on TV
There was no call to make a movie,No outcry saying we need the X Files
Star Trek was bought back from the dead only because of the success of Star Wars
What was the reason this was bought back?

The movie was always intended to be done even when the show was in production.
There was a delay because Chris Carter was having a legal battle with Fox. Anderson and Duchovny were always willing to do it. Carter and Spotnitz were always willing to do it. They just had to sort some things out.
Things got sorted out and they started almost immediately.
And the call was always there from the fans to continue it in some way. But you can't compare it to the call of Star Trek back in the day, the internet has changed all that and now a lot of people can get more vocal and a lot of things get missed if you're not looking for it.
Don't question why it's happening WJ35, just sit back and enjoy a good old fashioned freak of the week tale.

Well I do miss the show
I wonder what we will see in this?
The good old fashioned Aliens?
Cancerman's replacement?

From what i've read it's suppose to just be a freak of the week (like the early year eps) type story with very little mention of the alien conspiracy. Heck, they're only suppose to just touch on what's happened to William at the start before moving on.
It's pretty much just a stand alone extended episode set after the series finale but getting back to the roots of the series.
Which means no Lone Gunmen.

I'm psyched to see this. My dad used to watch the X-Files all the time, and I got into it by extension. (The same for Star Wars)

Sorry buddy but I'm going to have to disagree.
The first Star trek film first went into pre-production in late 73 and early 74.
At that time Lucus hadnt even sumitted a script for his first Star Wars story to his studios. As a matter of fact he was still working on American Graffiti at the time.Althou he was under contract to deliver a Si/Fi flick as well.
Back in 73/74 the ST movie script was called "The God Thing" written by Gene Roddenberry was about a vessel visiting Earth claiming to be God.
The 2nd script was a story by Harlan Ellison about alien reptiles changing Earth's past to make snakes evolutionarily dominant.
The 3rd script was called "The Planet of the Titans" wsas written by by Allan Scott and Chris Bryant and featured the Enterprise rescuing the a starship from some disaster.Kirk suffers a shock to the brain somehow causing him to gonuts and disappear.
Years later, the Enterprise, now Captained by Gregory Westlake, is sent to a planet near where Kirk disappeared. This planet is slowly being destroyed by a black hole, and contains something the Klingons want as well. Kirk is found, but the planet and the Enterprise are pulled into the black hole and sent to Earth's past, where they become the Titans of Greek mythology.
This story was nearly produced as the first Star Trek motion picture. It was to be directed by Philip Kaufman.Pre-production art, storyboards, make up and costumes and princable photgaphy were all done.
The movie was abandoned in late 1976 when Paramount finally rejected Scott and Bryant's script.
In late 1976 early 1977,they desided not to do a film and instead started work on a second television series, to be entitled Star Trek: Phase II and was going to be the first show to debut on the "first planed" Paramount Network.
But Paramount changed plans again after the saw how popular Star wars had become.

Back in 1979 on the old Mike Douglas show or was it Dinah shore I forget......the cast of the movie on a talk show
They were asked Star Wars question and the cast agreed that Star Wars was the reason Star Trek was resurrected from the dead.

They were asked Star Wars question and the cast agreed that Star Wars was the reason Star Trek was resurrected from the dead.
The point of all the info was that the resurrection was already well underway before the even started filming Star Wars.
Plans and pre-production for the first movie were already in place 4 years before Star Wars was released and 1 year before it began filming.
Filming of the 2nd tv serries called Star Trek phase II was already under way before Star Wars was released.
The only real effect that Star Wars had on the resurrection of Star Trek was that its success convinced Paramont to make Star Trek a movie franchise again [as was the original resurrection plan] instead of a tv serries.
To real world factors were the real reason for Star Treks return.
1]The Apollo 11 mission, the first manned mission to land on the Moon witch caused a renewed interest in the space program for the American populace which in turn brought new fans to Si/Fi in general.
And Star Trek also had influanced the Space Program.Space Shuttle built for NASA was called the Enterprise.
2]Syndication , Star trek became very popular in 1970 as reruns, a cult following developed, complete with fan conventions. It was in syndication that Star Trek spawned a strong fan following and later achieved iconic status as a worldwide television phenomenon.
It was also that which opened the door for Star Trek's return.

It was Star Wars that pushed paramount to go with Star Trek
It was the 70's until Star Wars showed sci fi was looked down on
Funny how most sci fi movies came out after Star Wars
I know about Star trek Phase 2 but that was for tV and they dropped it
Before Star Wars came out
Ok lets on, this thread was about the X Files
If you want to discuss this further talk about it on DS's site

That is pretty much true.
Wheeljack35 wrote:It was the 70's until Star Wars showed sci fi was looked down on
Also pretty much true. But Sci/Fi films were very popular in the 50's and 60's as well.Taste in Sci/fi films seems to be a trend like.
Wheeljack35 wrote:Funny how most sci fi movies came out after Star Wars
Thats true but its not a fair way to judge it.With the advancements in movie making tech....sci fi films are eazier to make and much more realistic.
Al tho I'll admit that Star Wars is responcable for many if not all of those advancements.
Before Star Wars the decade that made the most Sci fi films was the 50's in witch about 141 sci fi films were made and the 60's in witch about 100 sci fi films were made.
The 80's saw about 168 sci fi films and the 90's saw about 161 of them.Thats less then 30 films more made in each decade then were made in the 40's.
Could you imagine how many Sci fi films could have been made in the 40's if they had the tech that was avalible in the 80's or 90's????
This decade were in seems to be the most profitable yet. With 2002 being the year that has the most Sci fi films made in a single year.
So far the 00's have seen about 183 sci fi films and we still have 1 and 1/2 years to go.
Wheeljack35 wrote:I know about Star trek Phase 2 but that was for tV and they dropped it
Before Star Wars came out
Plans Star Trek phase 2 started out as a movie and then was change to a tv show....and again [after Star Wars] a movie again.

I just recently finished my second run through all 9 seasons, and I am totally stoked that this is finally getting done. X-Files is my alltime favorite TV show, especially the outside of the conspieracy episodes. This is going to only bring my jones back even harder, I need more!!
