To open or not to open?

Feel free to discuss anything about any of the thousands of Transformer toys here. Anything from Generation 1 all the way to the soon to be released, the never to be released or the hope to be released is fair game! Want to show off your stuff? To open or not to open?

Postby Bassman9027 » Mon Sep 05, 2011 9:59 pm

I recently purchase a factory sealed toy-r-us 10th anniversary Optimus Primal vs Megatron set. I always wanted these two figures when I was a child and never got them. Now that I am getting back in to beast wars and bought this set for a whopping $145 with shipping.

My question to all of you is: should I open the box and enjoy these two beastly figures or, preserve their factory sealed status and just purchase opened primal and megs just to have the molds to mess around with?

One more thing, since I am new again to the world of transformer collecting does the factory sealed status dramatically affect the value of these figures? :???:

Thanks

If I had wanted those figures to play around with I would have bought them loose.
Personally I would keep them sealed and pick up some loose to display outside of the complete sealed box.
At the price you paid it becomes a collector piece, but that's just me. There are others that need to get their bear paws on the toys themselves no matter the cost paid.

Open it. Toys should be opened. I opened my Amazon Exclusive Unicron. I would open an MISB Fortress Maximus.

I don't buy toys just so I can look at a box. I certainly wouldn't pay that much for something I can't play with!

Open it. If you want an investment, buy stocks or mutual funds.

Weapon: Energon Crossbow
I open every single one I buy, and I buy them because I want to be able to experience them; I want to change them from mode to mode, pose them, adn set up displays

Open. That's what they're there for. They're called Transformers, and you can't transform them without opening them.

Yes. If resale value is important to you keep it factory sealed.

Open, play and enjoy.
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

If I wanted to buy nice looking boxes just so I can look at them I'd buy decorative jewellery boxes. At least I'd be able to open them and use them for storing stuff. Like Transformer spares.
