Why they could just follow the roadmap laid out by over 20 years of excellent storytelling will forever be beyond me.

Actually Disney wouldn't have won anyway even if it had decided to film the Thrawn trilogy, to get each book into one movie would have required cuts and that would have upset fans (look at the Lord if the Rings fans mourning Tom Bombadil and the Barrow Wights). Heck even if they did the perfect adaption, you'd have a set of fans complaining about it being an adaption! Just like you had fans who wanted this new trilogy to be what Lucas wanted (which was vastly different than the books to boot)
I fully agree with Lucasfilm shifting the whole lot into legends as no one really loses, that whole lot is still readily available, while the new timeline has a whole lot of new pasture to fill out, to allow new ideas...That they then gave that new ground to Abrams is a different matter entirely but someone clearly thought he style was a good fit...

Because Disney.
More because of Kathleen Kennedy, JJ Abrams, and Rian Johnson.
Don’t forget, Disney allows Kevin Feige a lot of freedom in how he runs Marvel Studios. And Kevin has decided to pay homage to what has come before, whereas the Kathleen Kennedy Krew decides to ignore everything that came before.

It isn't perfect adaptations that are wanted, its something along the lines of the Marvel cinematic universe. They do their own thing, but follow and pay respect to what came before. A series that is well thought out, coordinated, and planned. With plenty of time for character development.
I don't mind the story that Star Wars is trying to tell, I just want them to do it much better.
But thats me, and my hangup.

[quote="Rodimus Prime"]And Cyber Bishop, I completely agree with you on critics. Especially those who are fanboys who take themselves too seriously and think their word is gospel.
Fanboys are one reason I stepped away from the 501st and all conventions period. My life has been much better being a hermit and not interacting with many people anymore lol.
Not a sheeple.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

That's fair to say. My post was more about explaining why they wanted to jettison the old EU.

Nevermind, it happened during Rebels which is post-Clone Wars.

Caught the latest episodes of the Clone Wars. Really good, except every time I see the Bad Batch, I keep thinking, "why didn't you just use Delta Squad?" Their cool in their own right, but the similarities are so
obvious, it's frustrating.

So in observance of May the 4th, here I am watching Empire Strikes Back. It's been years since I've seen it, I was starting to forget how many iconic scenes it has. The most iconic, where Vader reveals some hard truths to Luke, is almost here. Return of the Jedi is next.

Yeah it's up there, but I don't think it beats the fight sequences towards the end. Especially Yoda vs. The Emperor. It's my favorite sequence from the Star Wars movies. I just wish it was longer. They should have destroyed the entire Senate building, it would have been appropriately symbolic.

I found it hilarious that people were posting warnings that the final Clone Wars episode had been "leaked".
Nevermind the fact that it dropped at 12am in whatever time zone which meant New Zealand got it first.

Honestly the most frustrating part of that film is that it comes so close to the mark of being the prequel I wanted, and just misses. (mainly because of Lucas's thing for wooden dialogue.) I really like the movie, but it always felt like it was just on the cusp of being even better.

Having said that, I agree that some parts could have been tweaked just a bit and the movie as a whole would have been more enjoyable. However, I enjoy it as it is nonetheless.
Had he kept control of the franchise (Disney might still do it, considering their penchant for rewriting history) I wonder if he would have revisited the prequels and changed them, like he did with the original trilogy back in the late 90s.
