Does anyone have any idea how many issues and problems and budget contraints they had to get that piece that far? I know a thing or two about building models and I can tell that a lot of thought and effort was put into that Prime.
The trailer itself is a noticeable homage to the G1 trailer. Look at how it has that stripe on the side. They could have very well done another movie prime without a trailer, but instead they give our G1 loving palletes a taste of it in the movie realm. Sure, it's not the end all of trailers that have combined with Prime over the years, but then again, I"m of the opinion that Prime doesn't really need any other special stuff to make him awesome. I give them kudos for making the trailer do something besides sit there and be a base and for all intents and purposes, I think it looks pretty cool.
Now I will admit that the Optimus Prime figure alone is definitely not the eye-catcher of the movie toys thus far. ROTF Prime will probably always be the best in everyone's books, but that getting of topic. The fact of the matter is that we're currently looking at this piece and what it's purpose is. We have to keep in mind that this is not the MP line so they aren't going to take the normal strides to keep it as accurate as possible. What they did intend was to make a toy that would be awesome and my initial assessment says just that. Sure it won't be the most accurate portayal of movie Prime, but what it like in accuracy it makes up for in playability. I think this will be the first movie Prime that I won't be afraid of breaking mid transformation.
Now, I'm surprised that no one has noticed the reason for the inaccuracy on the figure thus far. From what I'm seeing, that trailer that everyone has been wanting for him since 2007 is the culprit in the matter. You'll notice that the combined mode in the picture seems to make up for the strange shape of Prime. I think this figure was designed with the intention of being more accurate when the trailer is combined with it.
Overall, I'm waiting until I actually buy the thing and handle it for myself because that's the kind of collector I am. I don't pass any judgment until the figure is actually in my hand. I'm more than sure that I'll be pleased with this figure just as I have been with every other movie figure that I own and I do own most of them.
DOTM, Here I come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Given the lack of leg articulation in its combined form [the form which, as you pointed out, is the form he is designed around], an obvious lack of articulation at his waist, what looks to be greatly restricted articulation in his arms, and a general lack of 'features' that do anything other than move an inch or two, what "playability" do you see in this toy that makes up for its numerous aesthetic deficiencies?
I'm guessing there will be electronic lights and sounds out of the blue back pack, but that's not exactly something that's going to stop the presses. By and large it looks like it's just going to stand there, very tall, in roughly one pose, and loom - And its not like Leader-Class Brawl, who could loom and shoot at the same time; Optimus seems to have a couple of Marneus Calgar Powerfists and that's it.
Actually, overall I was far more disappointed in its lack of "playability" than its lack of "accuracy" - I'm still not fond of the movie animation style, so a departure from what's on screen isn't really tragic.
Overall, I'm waiting until I actually buy the thing and handle it for myself because that's the kind of collector I am. I don't pass any judgment until the figure is actually in my hand.
Umm... You're going to buy an $80 toy and decide afterward whether you want it?
I hope you make a lot more money than I do...

I thought the DOTM figures would be 10 times better then ROTF figures. And a lot of the ROTF were really good.
This sucks. I hope there is a better line for DOTM.
If this gets posted more then once, it's because of my droid.

I honestly have no problem dropping $80 on a figure. I make enough money and budget well enough to suit my needs. I think I dropped something near $1600 so far for the first 2 movies and it looks like I'll do it again for DOTM. That $1600 doesn't count everything I bought inbetween either or the chunk I dropped at botcon 2009.
And by decide, I mean I'll like it. I have yet to buy a figure and say I hate it. In fact, every figure I own, I can genuinely say something good about it.
I easy to please as long as they at least make something that peaks my curiosity and this figure has done just that.

His super mode is going to have terrible articulation, you can see that his legs stay attached to the rest of his butterfly-dress-up backpack with an incredibly thin sticks of plastic (which ARE going to snap) and his hands are STILL unarticulated.
This mold's going to be voyager or deluxe. I'm praying that fansproject releases a screen acurrate trailer for ROTF leader Prime.
I HAVE HAD IT WITH HASBRO! THEY HAD BETTER (AND SCREEN ACURRATE) FIGURES IN G1! HASBRO SHOULD BE TRYING TO CREATE SCREEN ACCURATE AND DETAILED FIGURES FOR DOTM INSTEAD OF PICKING UP A DOG TURD OFF SOME RHODE ISLAND STREET CORNER, PAINTING IT AND THEN STILL MIS-TRANSFORMING IT FOR STOCK PHOTOS! THIS IS ONE OF THEY'RE MOST SUCCESFUL LINES AND THEY'RE SCREWING IT UP!
WTF HASBRO?!

Obviously with the design changing a lot throughout the movies development and production and with the time constraints they would have been under with the development of the figure I can understand why this bears little similarity to what we saw in the trailer.

2 Years ago they manage to produce a figure that is 88% movie accurate, and features an impressive transformation, but now they manage to create this.
Oh sure it combines with a trailer, but the combined mode looks kinda like Power Master Optimus Prime, but PM Prime is like 22 years old.
Yea, it's best to just get Buster Prime.

Hasbro needs to focus on quality rather than silly gimmicks.(They improve upon Star Wars every time, so what gives?)
This DOTM line is taking a step backwards. But as long as they sell (which they most likely will) to the young'uns of the target customer, it'll be fine(!)
Really hope this isn't the one we've heard will have motion-sensors and such! (If it is, oh dear...)
MOTION SENSORS
How did i miss that?
is it true???

Just goes to show: ROTF Optimus Prime was the best Optimus Prime EVER. Nothing from DOTM can top it unless they re-release leader Prime with a trailer.
