Nice catch. I really figured this was the Takara version. Updated the story to note the custom paint, still a nice gallery of the figure though. Those weapon pods shown under the wings and on his forearms in some of the images are probably custom as well. I don't recall seeing them in earlier pics and reviews.
That's kind of a bummer, because this deco looked great...and my custom skills are rather novice.

Even with out remolded heads we could have easily had Rotorstorm and Whirl here. With the Wreckers in the movie, I'm really surprised they didn't go that way.
I guess it's possible we will get repaints into Whirl and Rotorstorm. Also as far as the movies go it's possible we won't even have a helicopter transform or be given a name. They could easily cruise by with an autobot symbol on it and that'll be all we get.
Still, I will pick up the Skyhammer mold. Maybe having him along with Tomahawk will give me the inspiration to repaint them in to Rotorstorm and Whirl.
New head for Skyhammer and new legs for Tomahawk (along with paint for both) and they'll fit in nicely with the classics/universe lines.

Have to wonder if they have the trademarks on the names Rotorstorm or Whirl. I seem to remember that they had to use the "Autobot Whirl" name for one of the TRU sets. I can find a band named Whirl, a programming language, and a magazine so far. Rotorstorm, i can't find anything on so it may have just expired
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

Its kind of like Basic Instinct, but not in a good way...
Goddammit, now I can't unsee it.

Okay someone please crystallize this for me? I saw among the posted Hasbro DOTM items to be released and in the package Skyhammer does not have the same color apps. as he does in this post. So which one is the final?

The Hasbro pics are the actual colors, the figure in this gallery has had some repainting. Still a great gallery though.

No problem. You could always repaint him yourself, or the Takara version may have different paint apps. Personally I think Skyhammer is one of the best looking DOTM figures we've seen.

Nahh, I don't have the talent or patience to paint it myself. Maybe Takara could have the answer or maybe a repaint is in the future. I agree he is a great fig and a great mold top to bottom. One of the very few that are awesome in this line. But gundam paint apps. to hell with you!! (lol)

Skyhammer just arrived at my local hobby store last week, and I'm still wondering if I should pick him up. Not loving his default paint job, and would like to repaint him into the same color scheme as the one in the pics shown on this thread.
Thing is, I'm still learning about repainting figs, and I'm not sure if I can handle the job.
EDIT: BTW, is it just me or is the head the only part that was painted in that custom Skyhammer? I compared pics of the custom with the original one, and the paint scheme looks pretty much unchanged.

Your call. (IMO) he is one of the better TFs from DOTM. I'd say it depends on what you collect and if it fits for you? Sometimes it's easier to decide if you like it once it's inhand. You could surly take it back if you don't.

I couldn't agree more. If you are a Helicopter focused collector, it is a definite. The structure of both the bot and alt mode are fantastic (Rotors as a chest piece? I thought I'd hate them but once in hand, I find them SPECTACULAR). The attention to detail is significant. The articulation is above average (although I would like rotating wrists). The figure is balanced, unique and strong. Do what I did, buy two.One thing...the mech/weapon gimmick is not a favorite. The spring mechanism failed after three pulls. I am working on making it a permanent sword.
No thing that is created by humans is infallable.
Help! I need:
The chin piece for Animated Shockwave/Longarm (grey)
One pistol for TF:ROTF Brawn

Thanks for the input, guys.
I just decided to buy him anyway. The more I look at the fig, the more kickass he looks. Most, it not all, reviews were positive, and IMO he seems to be one of the most successful helicopter TF designs to date [proportionate in both modes.]
I just hope he's still in stock at the hobby store. Should be plenty left, as he's not in the movie and isn't exactly the most popular character in the DOTM line.
