So was anyone able to take advantage of the guaranteed 4* combiner packs for $99 that was accidentally released a few hours ago?

It was a pack that allowed you to purchase either all the Aerialbots or all the Constructicons, guaranteeing a 4* team. Apparently it wasn't supposed to be released and got pulled pretty quickly. A few people snared them while everyone else in VIP is pissed that they didn't have a decent chance of getting it.

Christ, $100 for a few dudes? No thank you. You can argue that if you're playing a game for free you should eventually give something back but that's a little bit too ridiculous. You could buy an actual Superion or Devastator for that!

This game has a shelf life of maybe 2 years ... all that money invested into digital characters that they will eventually not be able to use.

Exactly! A little money here and there... for Freemium games, at most I'd go 40 (which is an absolute stretch and I've still never gone anywhere past 10 for anything) since that's what an actual, non-freemium game that I could buy for my DS or whatever would cost. Said non-freemium game being able to last forever and hence no buyer's remorse unless it's that bad.
The best way I'm able to justify buying stuff in these games is if it's like, little pocket money things. I dropped 8 quid for a Build Bot and Cyber Coins? Well... whatever, I could have gotten a takeaway Pizza for that price; no big deal. 100? Get out.

I remember spending something like $110 on Legends back when that was a thing (spread over a few months), and I regret that to this day. Not paying good money for in-game units, no matter how much I want Devastator. If you want my money, make it a game worth spending money on, with money going towards items that don't give me a sharp advantage. Like Team Fortress 2 does. Instead they entice people by making the characters you practically NEED to compete at high levels be absurdly rare unless you pay them. Sigh.

And yeah, they give out 4-star crystal shards during events, but you almost have to already have 4-stars to do well enough to get a significant amount of them to build an arsenal.

You're not the only one.

Big difference between Earth Wars and Legends is that each new bot doesn't make the previous few weeks redundant. I got tired of new Legends cards basically making older cards worthless. And to get decent new cards, you had to invest some SERIOUS coinage.

People can say what they want about Earth Wars, but at least you can get some enjoyment out it without having to pump money into it.

Yeah, I give the game credit in that regard. In Legends, you HAD to get each week's cards to do decently in the event, and so on and so forth. That was a vicious cycle.

But the event cycle happened in Battle Tactics too, did it not? (I loved Battle Tactics, sad to see it go. ;-;)

Battle Tactics also started power creeping pretty quickly, but it also started making rank 4 and even 5 characters available to free players with the monthly campaigns. It was also a decently fun game but DeNA apparently didn't learn from the mistakes of Legends, which is why SpaceApe has the license now.

The $100 for the bots is not bad if you don't have any of that star. For instance, I don'the have any 4 star constructicons so to be (guaranteed) able to get all 6 for $100 would be more cost effective than buying the chance to maybe get them with premium crystals.

It is a better spend for your money if you don't have any.

I am only missing Mixmaster in the 3 star team, paying $100 for the 3 stars is effing nuts. Mixmaster is likely to come along sooner rather than later for me, I can wait. In the 3 star case I'd rather spend the money on premium crystals for the chance to get more spark and possible a 3 or 4 star non constructicon bot.

I am, right now, in no race to be the first to have a combiner. If I had extra money right now I would consider the 4 star bundle... but... c'est la vie. Eventually I will have a 3 star Mixmaster and a combiner.

I've been playing for about 5 days and I'm already making fair progress with obtaining the 1 and 2 * characters, and so far the only duplication is getting the 2* starscream whilst having started with the 1* version.
I'm not planning on spending anything just to get a combiner when I've barely been playing the game.

Oh yeah, I do like Earth Wars as a game; it's just the microtransactions that make up... pretty much all my problems with it. Which I know is probably a bit of a paradox, but...

So from my brief read of the VIP chat this morning, players who got the $99 bundle have had their bots removed and refunded, and given some 4* crystals for their trouble.

People are still whinging.

So my new 3-Star for this weekend's shards is Long Haul.
That's my 9th 3-star. And my 5th 3-star constructicon.
Either Constructicon drop rates for 3-stars are very high or I have some very hilarious luck. It's also worth noting that at one point a random crystal gave me a duplicate 3-Star Scrapper!

So yeah, I'm just a 3/4-star Bonecrusher away from being able to use Devastator. And if I get all 8,000 BP this war I'll get a 4-star... if it's Bonecrusher I won't be able to play this game anymore because I will have died of laughter.

Yea, VIP chat is most comparable to a flaming dumpster.

Happy those who bought the packs didn't get to keep them. Same thing happened with 5* bots not too long ago.

Just to let everyone know, on the news section of the game there's an icon of Rodimus opening the matrix that gives a newsletter sign-up offer for everyone and only requires your e-mail. I urge everyone to sign up for it as it promises freebies and apparently the first one comes next week.

Last time they asked for am email (during a survey) they sent out loot codes... can't remember what I got , but it may have been a premium crystal.. whatever it was it was a nice surprise. So I signed up again when I saw that.

So yeah, sign up people.

Can I just say that this weekend's prizes have been amazing?
Like, seriously. 8,000BP isn't impossible to get, you get a ton of 3-star and 4-star shards, a ridiculous amount of Spark near the end; and even the resource inventory prizes are amazing - 400,000 alloy? Seriously?!
Maybe I'm just happy because it ensures I get both a new 3-star and a new 4-star this weekend, but it really feels like SpaceApe have upped their game with figuring out how to do solo events. I hope all solo events are as good as this

Meanwhile I've barely cracked 1k.
Gonna have to put some serious time in tomorrow after work.

currently sat at 1099 points for this event. Aim is to make it to the 2000 marker.

So as if my luck couldn't get any better after getting a fifth Constructicon from my 3-star crystal, one of the 8-hourly free crystals just up and gives me one of the few 2-stars I was missing - Skywarp. If I end up hitting 8,000 BP that'll be me training a 2-star, a 3-star and a 4-star over the next few weeks
Only 2-stars left to get are Scrapper and... sigh Gnaw. 61 BP. I could've gotten that. Anyone who was booted could've gotten that. Literally anyone could've gotten that.
