With a yellow cab and an entirely translucent yellow trailer, Shining Magnus (シャイニングマグナス) is intended to recall the moment in the The Transformers: The Movie, just before Optimus Prime dies, when the Matrix is passed to Ultra Magnus and he is bathed in its light. Of course, the Matrix's light was, er, blue, so it's a weird fit. The Marvel Comics adaptation of the film did colour the light yellow, but it seems rather unlikely that's where Takara were taking their inspiration from.
The source of this information comes from the back of Shining Magnus's box:ストーリー/コンボイ対メガトロン
コンボイは、ついにその最後をむかえた。「マトリックス」 にサイバトロン総司令官としての「意志」をこめ一人の若者の手にサイバトロンの新時代をゆだねることを「ウルトラマグナス」に託した。
(「マトリックス」を「ホットロディマス」に手渡す時の手にした光り輝く「マトリックス」の光を浴びている姿の再現) 企画製作 20世紀おもちゃ博物館展実行委員会STORY: Convoy vs. Megatron
Convoy finally met his end. He entrusted the "Matrix", imbued with the "will" of the Supreme Commander of the Cybertrons, to Ultra Magnus, placing a new era of the Cybertrons into the hands of a young man.
(Recreating the scene where the Matrix is handed to Hot Rodimus, bathed in the glowing light of the Matrix) Planned and produced by the 20th Century Toy Museum Exhibition Executive CommitteeSo yeah, the idea comes from that scene. The execution of coloring the toy yellow, however, is what makes no sense."When there's gold feathers, punch behind you!!"

Hey now, don't go changing the text in the wiki to make a point, that's not fair.![]()
It hasn't had the point about Hot Rod being bathed up until recently it seems.
The Yellow light might have been my own unconscious editorializing though.![]()

Official Images of Missing Link Grimlock Revealed
Following the teaser announcement of Missing Link Grimlock, official product shots have been released along with preorders from many overseas retailers. The photos show off how Takara was able to implement today's expected articulation on yester-years toy as we expected from Missing Link. The photos also reveal that the Dino-Mode also gains some extra elbow articulation, as well as the ability to turn the dino-head and possibly some tail articulation as well. The articulation is incredibly integrated into the new design as highlighted by the side-by-side image shown below.
For accessories, all of the G1 parts are back, including the missal launcher and a now chromed out sword for Grimlock to wield. Grimlock also follows Ultra Magnus in paying homage to his DiaClone roots and includes a Diaclone Driver to finally utilize the cockpit that has always been present on the spine of the T-Rex.![]()

From some photos, it also looks like the Grimlock robot head is more forward, and doesn't sit back behind the shoulders like with the original toy. It would be fun touch if the head is made to slide forward or back, so you could have the choice looking better, or emulating the original design.

It doesn't slide, it's on a couple of hinges. I think it's part of the transformation.
