Man, when I saw this topic I thought you found one.
But a Transformers game in addition to HMW would rock.

Re: Transformers MMORPG
A quick googling says that while this idea seems to d othe rounds in forums and blogs fairly regularly, there's only the vaguest rumors of anything like it on the cards.
Here is an interesting site suggesting stuff similar to what we were discussing.
Random thought: What if Decepticons kept their usual advantages like flying, but were conpensated by being "shoot on sight" by the NPCs, in a modification of the GTA-like setup that was suggested before?

Here's my problem with that:
Any mission a 'Con would take (Particularly city missions) would be painfully difficult, if not impossible, if you've got to fight off not only the humans, but any and all Autobots near you.
This would make the game nearly unplayable if you include the customary XP Death Subtraction (Losing experience for dying, nearly all MMOs have it as incentive to not lose) or item drops. (Same as XP Death Subtraction)

Re: Transformers MMORPG
I was aware that that would be the main issue, which is why it's only a suggestion. The decepticons being able to fly and the autobots (usually) not is a big thing in G1, so the Decepticon have to be able to fly, and the Autobots have to get something in return.
There is the point that if the Decepticons have flight, it allows them to bypass a lot of stuff like wandering EDC and army guys, and to run away if things go badly. It would make for a different play experience for the Decepticons (Flashbacks to Diablo and the constant townportalling to wittle down the enemy. Yeah, I know it can get annoying).

The Autobots should be able to get flight as well as the Decepticons, but they should have to pay more for it, in start up costs, durring character creation the player should be able to choose his basic form. For the Autobots, the selection for alt forms that fly should be very limited. If we are talking G1, the 5 aerial bots, Cosmos, Jetfire and Powerglide.
From these body types the player should be able to select colors for the new character.
Starting weapons should be basic, I think that they should follow what WoW and Everquest did in making weapons level specific.

Sorry I've been quiet - things here on Earth have been a bit dramatic...
In the all of 15 sec thought I've given this my thinking is, why not make it a faction specific "racial" ability (like the ones in WoW) - Decepticons all get a flight ability at character Gen, but it's short duration and costly to use energy wise - making it more suited to making a fast escape, rather than a "death from above" scenario AND it still validates the use of Aircraft based alt-forms (which was something that used to bug me as a kid - why turn into a jet, if you can already fly anyway?)

Re: Transformers MMORPG
It could be available as one of a set of options: Perhaps Aircraft-mode 'Cons don't need it so they take Sensors instead. Did all the Decepticons fly in the comics.
It would be a good choice for the "Now prove yourself a true Decepticon Warrior" quest reward once you're out of the early levels.
I'm coming up blank on what the autobots would have instead as their abilities. Something heroic like getting stat boosts when low on Health and/or Energon would fit, I suppose, but they wouldn't get anything specific like the Decepticons, that I can think of.
Of course, if we pull off a larger number of factions, then it gets more complex. Using the War Within examples:
Prowl's Autobots: Coming up blank
Grimlock's Lightning Strike Coalition: Some kind of "rage bar" thing that builds up to give bonuses.
Springer's Wreckers: The "Chips are down" ability I mentioned about.
Shockwave's Decepticons: Coming up blank
Ratbats Ultracons: fuel efficiency, flight an option later on
Starscream's Predacons: All have flight

If we look at the abblities in the way CoH is set up:
Blasters - The transformer equilivant would be StarScream
High damage but low hit points
Scrappers- The Transformer I think of this would be a Autobot like Sideswipe or Brawn
Tankers- This would be just about any Bot or Con that can take a ton of damage, I would think this would be like Sludge or Snarl.
Controlers- This would be like Soundwave, and his army of cassettes.
Defenders- Trail Breaker comes to mind.
Masterminds - These in my mind would be any combiner team.

It would be interesting that the all real Characters of the Transformers are bots and questmaker and we can chose the parts like for example Starscream, Optimus Prime etc but we don't really be Prime.
And that in vehicle form that the airplanes like Starscream are allrounder in the game but can't play all missions, like the Speedia contest that just Transformers with the vehicle mode from a Car can play and planes like Broadcast has missions on open water.
The bots like Broadcast or Omega Supreme give the service to travel faster to an other continent if you are a car.

I like this I play everquest 2 and I think soundwave would be more like a dirge helping his fellow cons fight more effective or to weaken the oponents. (buff or de-buff for the mmorpg pros) but then again yes soundwave and blaster would be controlers like you said ^^. God I gotta get back to everquest 2 get my warden ready for raid ^^

I dunno, I keep coming back to Tribes 2 in my mind when I picture a TF game - player driven customisation rather than pre-set classes, obviously with some options requiring certain preresiquites (ie: size, other gear/ skills)
perhaps the best system would borrow from both - starting with pre-defined character types, players are then able to personalise their bots gear/skills

Also what about the Era of TFS, example, in tribal wars you pick worlds, in TF mmorpg you pick series or something to that effect.

Re: Transformers MMORPG
I don't think that one can truly have multiple continuities in the same game, it wouldn't make a terrible amount of sense unless we were going for a Crisis on Infinite Cybertrons kinda of scenario. And I don't see much terrible point in that: What really is the difference between G1 Prime and Armade Prime, other than what his power-up partner is called? The only exception would be to possibly include Beast Wars in a G1 game, with a time warp or the like. But if the character creation is done right, it won't be much different from having a certain 'race'.

I'm baaaaccckkkkk!!
Well, sort'a - running my new Computer store kinda eats up all my time - but anyway...
...I too had pondered the idea of attempting to incorperate the various TF incarnations, but the best my feeble mind could conjure was either:
A) A seperate custom server for each era (ie: BW, G1, etc) - but that'd effectively be making a seperate GAME for each server, which is silly
or
B) Release expansions adding "Space-bridges" to each Era (ala the Dark Portal in WoW), with each expansion adding new Era-specific alt-mode options to character gen. - The main disadvantage here is that Robot Dinosaurs ain't exactly "Robots in Disguise" in the Big City...You would have to include some form of trade-off for the lack of "Stealth" element for players questing in Zones completely alien to their Alt-mode. eg: A Dinobot stands out like a sore thumb but can shrug off a ton more damage, or (to rehash an earlier idea of mine) maybe the human military NPCs will tend to flee in terror rather than fight, due to the unfamiliarity of the situation. < You can't hide in the city if you're a 30ft robot dinosaur, but gain the advantage that most NPCs wont attack you....
...or for those with Cybertronian Alt-modes, you have no stealth (due to the fact that both modes emit a cybertronian energy signature, but your able to out-perform those with "primitive Earth-modes"...while for those just visiting Cybertron - while perhaps your earth-based alt mode makes you visually distinct, but also masks your energy signature, making you invisible to radar...
...maybe??

Oh, and also - While I had earlier suggested having players working to obtain the "ZOMG-WIN!" buff of being THE Prime...why not take a cue from the new animated series and simply make the Prime a rank (may have been suggested before) - suggested rank / titles may include:
Prime
Ultra / Magnus (?)
Supreme
Lord
ie: Sentinel > Sentinel Prime > Ultra Sentinel > Sentinel Supreme

Re: Transformers MMORPG
i think that when someone gets to a high level, there should be a challenge to become a leader. autobots would be elected a commander by the clan the would-be commander is a part of (the position is perminant unless you betray your faction, you don't have to get re-elected, there could be unlimited commanders). decepticons however have to fight another commander to become a commander. if you lose in a fight for power your name goes in shame. there could be a limit of 1,000 decepticon commanders at a time. it would be cool if optimus and megatron were actually selected adimins and actually played.
and i have a run-through of the alt-modes
cars/trucks.
are fast, they don't get practically any attention from civilions. they do however consume a lot energon and have no weapons.they give of so-so energon readings
jets/copters
are extremely fast and manuverable, have firepower. don't get attention unles they damage property and blow up stuff.use so-so energon. they give of so-so energon readings
tanks
are slow, get a lot of attention, and guzzle energon like theres no tomarow. tanks have massive fire power and have good defensive stats.
they give of so-so energon readings
spacecraft
are the fastest kind of altmode, but attract the most attention. they have good firepower and practically use very little energon. but, they have the highest energon reading.
watercraft
are like tanks but their speed and firepower vary depending on the kind of craft.
beast
are not as fast as cars or jets, but have decent speed and attack power. they can track energon readings better than any other altmode, they do get some attention though. they use practically no energon and give off the weakest energon readings. beast modes can go to places that have so much energon, that it would almost kill any other altmode. you get a beast mode in the quest "call of the wild".
i also am trying to figure out how cyber keys could work.

Re: Transformers MMORPG
here's a quest sequence, do the quest "cyber key POWER!" in which u must go to cybertron and secure a cyber key for ur faction, after this quest, u can craft cyber keys (kinda like runes in runescape) after that, u can go to animatros and do the "call of the wild" quest in which u must help either LeoBreaker or Deathsaurus (depending on ur faction) to secure the jungle planet key. u get beast modes for completing this quest. after this, go to a hidden cave in cybertron to find a time warp that brings u to prehistoric earth. there u can find various beast wars characters and u can do the quest "BEAST WARS!!!!!", after that quest, u can do a mini game that's basicly faction vs faction (that plays like runescape's castle wars).
i'll ad more stuff soon!

it would be cool if there was an online pizza delivery system that when typing in /pizza, it brings you to the pizza hut online delivery site like in everquest 2. here are some near-invincible NPCs,
lord Sigma-trion
and lord Cryotech.
they could only be killed in a surver reset.
