I own the first version of Megatron, and he's pretty damned badass. Great poseability. Some of his modes are a bit meh, but one of them...

It's a hand! A giant friggin' hand! It goes into awesome into surreal into pistachio!
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

That is pretty awesome!

I have checked prices on several figures, and I was surprised at how reasonable they are for the RiD line. Railracer is at the very top of the list. Prices on Fort Max are a bit on the steep side, but it is still a possibility. Definitely the crown jewel.

RID is one of my favourite toylines.

I have:

Fire Convoy (OK Optimus, but I get tired of all the different Optimuses out there, so the fact that the armoured mode looks sufficiently different and the not so bad Japanese name passes him as another character appeals to me)

Ultra Magnus (would kill to see him repainted as Motormaster)

Sideburn (red)

Prowl (I like to use the blue one as Prowl, and the white as a drone type character like the Seekers)

Wedge (yellow and orange versions)

Hightower (yellow)

Grimlock (yellow)

Heavy Load (yellow)

REV (either reissue Sideswipe or ROTF Breakdown need to be repainted as this guy at some stage)

WARS

Crosswise

Hot Shot

Daytonus

Sideswipe

Ironhide (my favourite Ironhide after G1)

Mirage

Mirage GT

Nightcruz

Scavenger

On the Con side:

Megatron

Slapper

Gas Skunk

Darkscream

Destructicon Scourge

Armourhide

Rollbar

Mo-Vor

Ro-tor

I like to boost the ranks with the Universe RID repaints

Inferno

Ratchet

Hightower

Bonecrusher

Scavenger

Long Haul

oversized KO desert Camo Armourhide, similar to his cartoon colours.

Can anyone tell me why ROTF desert camo Brawl wasn't named Armourhide since he sports a similar camo scheme and was also a repaint of a Brawl toy?

Also have an oversized KO G2 Onslaught and Vortex that I use as Mega-Octane and Ro-tor respectively. Don't really bother with the small originals. Pity because I love Armourhide's blue camo sheme as well.

I must get Sky-Bite, Skid-z (love Robotmasters Mirage), X-Brawn and Destructicon Bludgeon at some stage.

Sorry for long-winded post, just love this line.

Well, I will be getting my first Alternators figures fairly soon. Once I get them I will likely post to tell everyone what I think of them. I am super excited about them (Mirage, Skidz and Rollbar). After I check them out, I will probably jump into the RiD line head first! Thanks for all the great posts-I have viewed the figures from the RiD line and I am so excited to get into it that I can't hardly contain myself.

It is strange but I actually feel like I have a true direction for my collecting. RiD and Alternators/Binaltech. I think I have enough of the other lines for the time being, but I bet I'll still pick up the odd TF if certain ones come out that NEED to be bought! I don't have that much will :D power.

I finally got my 3 first Alternator in the mail a couple days ago (Rollbar, Skidz and Mirage). All I can say is "awesome". I think these are incredibly cool figures.

My favorite of the three is actually Rollbar. I WILL be getting Hound eventually, because this mold is fantastic. I absolutely love it. The working suspension is just great. It has a very G1 Bot mode and the transformation is fun. It is one of my favorite figures that I have now.

Skidz is pretty great in his own right. I really like the way he looks in Bot mode, and his xB alt mode is nice (although it is not my fave model of car). He isn't perfect, but a good looking figure with a fun transformation.

Mirage is unbelieveably cool looking in alt mode. The Ford GT is just about as pretty as any car ever made. The details inside and out are really amazing, and I am impressed. The bot mode looks really good to me as well, but I don't really like how the figure doesn't feel solid in bot mode. The transformation is interesting, but the finished product just doesn't seem solid. I can't stop staring at the figure in alt mode though. Freaking gorgeous.

As soon as I get more, I will post opinions and such.

The name "Armorhide" was used for the Landmine repaint. The ROTF Desert deco is based on the Leader Deep Desert Brawl of the first movie line and the FAB. No matter to me, I'll have him represent a new character in my collection. Any tan tanks in G1? ;)

RiD is a good small line and the first Japanese part (Car Robot) is relatively easy to complete. Actually I like to think it as a cross between Brave and TF with all those combiners :P I only have one single nitpick: Ruination. Hasbro shouldn't have changed the yellow to grey and changed Armorhide's colors.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

I don't think there's a bad Alternator mold. I also think the Mustang mold is one of the most fun out there. It's complex but once you get it down it's not bad. It's a little tricky to transform it without the doors popping off, but it gives you something to strive for. And I think it looks great in both molds.

Anyhow, for starters you may want to focus on getting one of each mold. Here's a list I came up with for reference when I started collecting them:

-Acura RSX
Camshaft
Prowl

-Chevrolet Corvette
Battle Ravage
Swerve
Tracks

-Dodge Ram SRT-10
Optimus Prime
Nemesis Prime

-Dodge Viper
Dead End
Sideswipe
Sunstreaker

-Ford GT
Mirage
Rodimus

-Ford Mustang GT
Grimlock
Wheeljack

-Honda Civic Si
Rumble

-Honda S2000
Decepticharge
Windcharger

-Jaguar XK
Ravage

-Jeep Wrangler
Hound
Rollbar
Swindle

-Mazda RX-8
Meister (Jazz)
Shockblast

-Subaru Impreza
Smokescreen
Silverstreak
Ricochet

-Scion xB
Skids

The next few I get will be Wheeljack, Tracks and Meister. The Mustang GT mold looks amazing in both modes, and I am digging the RX-8 mold a lot. I would actually like to eventually get all the Corvette figures, but I think your suggestion to get one of each mold first is a good idea.

The only one in the series that I don't like the looks of is Optimus Prime. If I get the Dodge truck mold, it will be the Nemesis Prime deco.

The RX-8 mold is a nice one. It's quite similar to the Subaru, but I think the RX-8 is the better, by quite a bit. It's a little easier to get the arms in place during transformation and it has an extra step with the legs. I'd be a bigger fan of Hasbro using the same molds if they more often made those kind of changes between them.

I'm in the minority that really likes Alt Prime...especially the BT version.

BTW, from my previous post, this should have read modes, not molds...

Haha, I knew you meant modes and not "molds". :D

I am actually on the fence about Meister vs. Shockblast. I might actually end up deciding to go the way of Shockblast.

I shouldn't really say that I don't like the Alt Prime figure, because I think it is pretty interesting. It just isn't extremely high on the list. Rumble is in the same category.

The only mold I can say for sure that I'll pass on is the Corvette Ravage. Once I grab the Jaguar mold, I have to doubt I will want to spend the money on a 3rd Vette. Swerve and Tracks should be sufficient. I am going to be so damned broke.....

'Shockwave' or 'Jazz'...that is tough. I think I might prefer Meister, but I haven't opened Shockblast to this point. Might just have to get both in that scenario! I think when I started the one of each mold goal I just went for whatever I found the best deal on most of the time. Although had I left it at one of each, I don't know if that would be my recommendation or not. I'm currently 3 shy of completing the line.

Rumble is probably my least fave mold in the line. He's cool, but he's probably the least complex, which I'm quite fond of.

Good luck getting Swerve for a decent price. I haven't checked recently, but he's usually not found for less than $70 or so and that's supposedly a decent price. Alternators have been on the lower end of the resale market recently so if I ever want to complete the line, I should maybe bite on the last two spendy figs (the other I'm missing is Camshaft [and Swindle, but he's easy enough to get at an acceptable price, I just haven't put a priority on it lately]) it's just tough dropping close to $150 on a couple of repaints when there's so much other cool stuff out or just around the corner!

Swerve is one I'm missing, and he's drifting up to $120 or so MISB.

I was offered a MISB one from a local collector for $75...probably shoulda took it, but I don't know if I want one MISB as I know I'd never open it then. Was probably a decent price even for a loose one, though.

I was hoping to get Nem as well but it'll set you back a penny or two. I got the red one for half price so I settled cos IMO it isn't worth a penny more than that!

I know it! The Nem Prime is out of range for me, because I refuse to pay that much for that particular mold. The standard ALT Prime is just not my cup of tea what-so-ever. The bot mode is not what I am looking for at all.

I'm surprised Alt Nemesis Prime is so pricy these days. They were very plentiful and in the $40-$50 range when I got mine a year or so ago.
