Sort of yes.

But again, a lot of it looks a heck of a lot better on screen.

Yeah they were both pretty good in the actual movie.

Kinda sad when you can say both of these guys left more of an impact in their short scenes in this movie then their abysmal treatment in the Bay films. (Their like literally the only two I actually think were "wronged" in the Bay films even if I liked their designs in those movies)

Hey, Soundwave and Ravage were responsible for Megatron getting brought back, and if not for Soundwave the pillars wouldn't have been covertly salvaged.

However good they were in the scenes doesn't make the designs any less of an obnoxious continuity error.

A Continuity error in these films? Who coulda guess

As establish in films like AOE with Bee and Prime there the Transformers can reformat themselves whenever they want so that's not a real error, same with Starscream on Cybertron although that's more of a stretch.

So that "error" can be wiped away, although the other contradictions like parts of Sector 7 can't.

"A Continuity error in these films? Who coulda guess" is not an excuse for throwing more on the pile.

The designs ignore the movieverse's internal design rules and established Cybertronian mode aesthetic (and in Soundwave's case his established Cybertronian mode) in favor of drooling G1 fanservice, so they are errors as far as I'm concerned. There's no reason for the characters to look like that when they didn't before - ESPECIALLY on Cybertron - other than to kiss the arses of G1 fanbrats. It's so painfully shoehorned that it makes even the clunkiest instances of Cybertron shoehorning song lyrics into dialogue seem smooth and natural by comparison. I'll still give the Bumblebee movie a chance, but I hope those designs get edited out some day. Even if it means replacing moving footage with a slideshow of drawn stills. That's how bullsh*** and out of place I think those designs are in this context.

The reformats in AoE were BS too - not quite as bad but still BS that ignored the house rules. Those were BS, not explaining what happened to Sam was and continues to be BS, Galvatron was ULTRA BS. Worst. Movieverse. Design. Ever. If TLK hadn't thrown that body out and put Megs back in a body that actually transformed, I would have jumped ship.

This franchise is dying they had no other choice with what they were working with, It was too late to cancel production for Bumblebee but they had to do something after TLK.

If the Bee film fails, better kiss the live action films goodbye as well as eventually the generations and other toy lines they partially fund.

Transformers will always be around but it's in a dangerous place right now and it could get worse depending on what happens and Hasbro/Paramount need to make money, and what in this franchise makes money like nothing else does?

G1

That's what makes money, the previous ways doesn't work anymore to the point that other countries can't save it.

You think their going to edit out the G1 designs when the other films don't even have edited editions where the Transformers get more screen time and juvenile humor is removed.

We Bay fans had 10 long running non stop years of content, it's time to move on and save the franchise which means going back to the move beloved part of the franchise before being able to do anything original again.

We need good content more so then we need original content.

TLK's problem was the bad taste AoE left in people's mouths putting people off from giving it a shot, if you ask me, rather than any fault of its own. Especially since it works to fix some of the things AoE broke.

If a fresh story was the path they were going they should have made a new series, not hijacked the existing one. G1 is not the be-all end-all of all that is good and beloved with Transformers, and trampling roughshod over an established universe that people are invested in instead of trying to improve it on its own terms ISN'T. GOOD. CONTENT.

What would help the movies is spending some time on exposition that reconciles continuity, including some of the positive recurring aspects of the franchise (like the Autobots providing disaster relief), and Paramount not being pissy over things like Megan Fox's remark about Bay or Shia LaBeouf defending himself against a paparazzi.

So anyway, I don't see how discussing how bad or good the movies are in a thread about a toy line.

So let's get it back on track.

So, how about that Studio Series Jetfire.
His robot mode may be cleaner and more accurate, but Jetfire still suffers a lot from being forced to combine with Optimus... Sigh. Hopefully if they do a Masterpiece version of him they'll have the sense to not make that one combine. They didn't combine in the movie, Jetfire's corpse was kitbashed - so trying to capture it via having the toys combine is like having, say, Scrapmetal combine with a Movie 1 Megatron to make ROTF Megatron. It's doomed to have problems and be inaccurate, and one or both of the toys involved will suffer because of it.

And on that note, Studio Series Jetfire's combination with Optimus isn't any more accurate than the ROTF Leader toys' combination, and might have less fun value to it.

All told, I'm not sure the axe and the cleaner robot mode are worth getting him for even with how much I love the character, when I already have the ROTF Leader figures...
For those who don't have a toy of him and want one, though, he's a good option!

User897 wrote:Still an ugly ass kibblebot with a jet growing out of it.

It's because they once again forced him to combine as the Jetpower armor. If not for that he'd be able to have better altmode integration, but because it's there he once again suffers from Silverbolt Syndrome.

I’d argue Jetfire’s altmode alone would make him a nightmare to be kibble free; combination or not. Look how perfect MP3(?) Starscream was in jet mode, but was a kibbles mess in bot mode.

The biggest issue i’ve always had with movieverse was how organic they were. To the point the protocorms were slimy big things.... that was the one refreshing thing with last Knight was bulking them back up. Though Drift will never makes sense to me.

I do appreciate the complexity of the older movie toys though.

To my defense I could easily make pages worth of words to talk about a simple subject so I'm already doing better.

Why would you want him to be kibble-free in robot mode? NOBODY is kibble-free in robot mode in toy or fiction form aside from cheating pieces of crap like AoE Galvatron. His robot mode doesn't really have much kibble that it shouldn't, it just can't all properly tuck into the jet mode because of A. having to accommodate combining with Optimus and B. The Studio Series' complexity aversion.

Image
I'm assuming the "kibbles mess" you're talking about is the way his tailfins hang from his waist instead of being on his legs where they belong? That has nothing to do with him being a jet, that's because the designer had a brain fart and decided "I'll make those parts hang like faux scabbards to homage the swordsmanship of the Unicron Trilogy Starscream"

Yeah, but it still contributed to a slimy, organic aesthetic, and that was SpikeyTigatron's point.

Okay, yeah, those were slimy (because of the energon cocoons they were grown in). But in the movies' context "protoform" more often refers to the "raw" robot modes with no proper altmode kibble (Earthly or Cybertronian) that turn into the meteoric transition form.

Just realized I never shared this image. Jazz is so photogenic, and he is my figure of the year. He's going with me next week during my week off of work, so I'm hoping he, Siege Sideswipe, and Cog can take some great pictures

What a coincidence! I just nabbed one from Amazon.ca. At only 15$CAN plus free shipping! Jazz was pretty elusive in my area so I'm glad to finally get him. Only thing to do now is wait for at least two weeks because of the Holidays and current Canada Post shenanigans.

Man Amazon Canada has actually been pretty decent this last little while, I got all of the special edition figures from there recently (Punch, Repungus, Blastoff), it's pretty great especially with a free month of Amazon Prime for that free 2 day shipping.

Yes. Now go to your room and don't play with yourself.
