That Hasbro quote is very disingenuous. I mean they say they're making "new products without being chained to old stories" and then turn around and give us Platinum sets based off the animated movie and VERY G1 true takes on several old characters.
Now don't get me wrong. I'm here because I love the old 80's cartoon. So I am totally down for 10 new takes on 80s Hot Rod. But just making Hot rod a Headmaster isn't making him "not G1." That quote seems to relate more to RID than Combiner or titan Wars.
I dont mind either, I am having good fun with you guys
That last bit is interesting. I do see what you mean since he is still G1 flavoured using a g1 gimmick so he's not necessarily an evolution in the aesthetic or character but more of a fun switcheroo. Still, he isn't G1 hot rod either right? So he's not G1 hot rod, but at the same time he isnt that different from G1 either, is that what you mean? Like it should be a go big or go home type thing?
Personally I think we all know whats really going on here. Hasbro is just trying to reassure fans with these quotes that dont really hold up or mean anything aside from letting you know that they do care (or else they simply wouldnt be there to answer). They just want to let you know that there is a reason for all this that is more than simply them capitalizing on a line wide gimmick and pairing it with known names and designs that fans and parents might recognize. But there isnt.
Do I still sound positive
But even then, it's still only a loose homage to the movie since, while the decos may be movie-inspired (plus shiny), most of the molds themselves are newer designs. Ultra Magnus and Springer in that Platinum set are literally wearing Sunbow/Toei decos on IDW robot mode bodies.Gauntlet101010 wrote:That Hasbro quote is very disingenuous. And the Platinum deco for Arcee is still less show-accurate than that of the Takara Legends Arcee.
Oh, they're still G1 designs, just different ones than those from the cartoon and movie (I forgot to also mention Blurr's IDW G1-based mold).Gauntlet101010 wrote:Sabrblade wrote:But even then, it's still only a loose homage to the movie since, while the decos may be movie-inspired (plus shiny), most of the molds themselves are newer designs. So sets directly referencing the G1 movie with moulds based on the G1 designs aren't solidly G1 to you and that Hasbro is being 100% sincere that they aren't being chained to old stories?
Well ... agree to disagree I guess.

But it's their being different ones that hurts the movie homage since, even though they are still some kind of G1 designs, they're technically the wrong ones for the homage, and yet remain the best/only options Hasbro has since there aren't any other/any better options for Hasbro to use to implement the homage.

Please do, or about any Titan Master for that matter. Don't wanna get Burnt
..or the heads. Who is anticipating a plethora of retools of them?

I just wish they wouldnt all come with redecos of the same titan master vehicles and animals we already have. Kind of defeats the purpose for me of buying a retool if it still comes with a redeco.

They are switching out Titan Master molds between figures though, meaning any head mold isn't necessarily tied to a specific body mold. The Stylor mold, for instance, is used for both Chromedome and Blurr, despite the main bodies not being retools (they do share some minor parts).
That one in the top-right corner is actually a third-party product.Logan79 wrote:

1. All except for the Legends Class figures.
2. What do you have against Headmasters?
3. Have you not been paying attention to product reveals since SDCC or what?

I have a strong feeling non-Headmaster heads which fit the plugs will get developed by 3rd parties. That said, it's a strong play feature and the head-only characters like Brawn and Grimlock enhance the "play feature" aspect. If you aren't partly appreciative of the play features, I'd think MPs or statues would be more your bag.
Now, what I'd like are generic bodies for the headless Transformers with army building encouraged.
Maybe a TR Titanmaster Sunstreaker so we can get headless IDW Sunstreaker clone bodies. Or maybe Vehicons and Guardians?
