Nice hauls to all frankly!
Just received Brake-Neck (Always WR to me) from Amazon. It's so seemingly insignificant, but I love the plugs on the head sculpt and the slanted, skewed Decepticon badge on the hood.

Dude you have no idea. There are even known cases of customs agents dealing with organized crime, it's a very crooked business.
Also, in a standard 20% off sale (which is on this week at toysrus.ca for instance), a 5 member combiner team would cost you at most 90$ with all fees and taxes included. This is a very far shot from the accurately predicted 250$.

The Platinum Edition stuff is exactly the same as G1 toys, right? If so, then these are my first ever G1 pickups!

Yes, they most definitely are, so congratulations on your first G1 toys. You actually picked up some of the very best toys that generation had to offer. And plus, these came with extras that didnt exist back then, those pink energon cubes. They are made to fit perfectly inside their bodies and they are a new addition to this edition, so congrats again!

Really? Huh, I thought those Energon cubes came with the original toys. I was actually looking for the Seeker Squadron, but I can't seem to find those guys anywhere locally so I decided to get the Insecticons instead. I definitely want to grab more G1 figures though. There's a local comic shop that's supposed to have some retro toys in it, so I might swing by there and see what they have tomorrow. So that makes the series I'm collecting right now G1, Masterpiece and Generations, oh my!

Not big on G1 purity, bought them mostly to mix and match. Once I get Blades, Superion will never be the same.

So, the G1 bug finally bit you, heh? (This time, almost litterally!)
You'll see, there is lots of weird and awesome stuff in G1. Many of the most popular molds have been re-issued so go ahead and seek these G1 awesomeness:
-- Optimus Prime. G1 Optimus have been re-release a gazzillion times. It's impossible for you to not find that amazing classic.
-- Megatron. Try to at least get the main body with scope/fusion canon. The bot mode look derpy, but he's quite charming. Plus the transformation is clever and fun! The sad part is, he's pretty expensive. Especially if you want him complete with all accessories. Even the re-issues are pretty pricey. Good luck!
-- Get a Scramble City combiner. That was the original combiner wars, with member compatible with each others. I have the RID version of Bruticus, Ruination, That I could sell to you for a reasonable price. PM me if ya want!
-- If he's still available for a reasonable price, try to get Platinum Predaking. That's a MASSIVE combiner made out of beasts! Plus, the gold instead of the original yellow truly give him a royal look.
-- Astrotrain and Blitzwing. If you don't mind oddball colors, there's the recent Platinum one. If you prefer the originals, there's plenty of weaponless vintages around for cheap.
-- Sideswipe, Sunstreaker, Red Alert. Those 3 share an amazing and fun mold. They are easy to find.
-- Last but not least, God Ginrai, A.K.A Powermaster Optimus Prime with Apex Armor. He have been re-issues twice and it's my personal favorite G1 toy ever. You get a derpy optimus with 2 trailers and a human guy. Human guy turn into a engine that allow you to transform the bot. First trailer become a base and the second one partform into a bot. Then, Optimus combine with trailer #1 to become Super Ginrai. Finally, Super Ginrai Combine with trailer #2 to become ULTIMATE GINRAI! Awesome stuff.
Finally, try randomly hunting flea markets. Many treasures and be found there!

The Seeker Squadron is currently only available through online specialty shops, and Wal-Mart.CA. So hopefully that means they'll eventually show up at Wal-Mart.com and even on store shelves.ClearlySane88 wrote:I was actually looking for the Seeker Squadron, but I can't seem to find those guys anywhere locally so I decided to get the Insecticons instead.
Good stuff. Can I assume you opened the bugs and like them then?ClearlySane88 wrote:I definitely want to grab more G1 figures though.
G1 isn't quite as daunting if you're patient and/or stick to reissues. But for must haves, Kan has a great list up there. Only thing I'd add is get a Seeker (or all of them!) and a Datsun (Prowl!). That's G1 to me!ClearlySane88 wrote:So that makes the series I'm collecting right now G1, Masterpiece and Generations, oh my!

Well... ok. There's a long in depth answer I can provide when I get home from work, but the short breakdown is like this:ClearlySane88 wrote:So, since I'm starting to collect G1 toys, anyone have any good tips for avoiding Knock-offs or bootlegs when searching? If you do, please PM me.
Between reissues and KO's you can get a very sizable chunk of G1 sealed and pristine. Theres certain molds that are "lost/broken/whatever", so if you see a brand new one of these "lost" figures for 40-80 bucks, its undoubtedly a KO. But generally, if you're ever in doubt head here and ask or wiki it

I took Tailgate because I was curious of the mold and didnt want to pay 12$cdn for Windcharger who comes without a targetmaster.

I remember now how much I dislike the plastic used in Last year's toys. It feels closer to the plastic dollar store toys are made of (or KO G1 toys). I also wanted to try the mode out to see if it belonged in this thread, as someone had advised. It doesnt. It's not a great toy but the only annoying part is the cheap plastic.

Oh, there's a tonne of KO's out there. But there's ones that look SO legitimate that they cross the line from KO and should almost be re-labeled as "counterfeit". Ans as far as the counterfeits go, I'm confident that's the bulk of it.ClearlySane88 wrote:Thanks for the info shajaki! Strange, I would've thought there would be much more than that.

No no, he meant the link included the bulk of the counterfeit items out there. From my experience, most of the out of box stuff on e-bay is the real deal. You usually run into counterfeits when you seek new in package G1 toys. Like there are these insecticons "rereleased" individually in very nice G1 boxes from china that are pure counterfeit. What I have been doing instead, is buying the toys very used up. Like that, I am pretty sure they are real and they are very cheap too, because they are so used up. What I do then is remove the stickers, clean them, and then reapply new stickers from Reprolabel. So I end up having some nice G1 toys in my collection at a fraction of the price. While you can find lots with several figures in them on e-bay, you can also probably find these toys locally at yard sales or in local personal ads, thrift stores or second hand stores. If yo want to stick to buying mire mint G1 toys, then like the rest, I suggest you simply stick to reissues.
