This is an idea for a new Transformers subline, based off of the fan-coined term: "shellformer." Look at Beast Wars Neo Break for the definition of the word. Anyway, I was thinking of a line where shellforming is the whole point, and they could just call the line Shellformers! Here's an example.

Say they were designing a Transformer that turns into a yellow Sedan. The car would be just that, but with a hinge on the top, and with a barely visible gap going down the middle of the car, all the way across, essentially splitting the car in half. The transformation scheme would be just pulling these halves outward until once could do so no longer. Inside would be a Transformer-looking action figure, balled up to fit inside the Sedan. One would simply unfold it, and it would be essentially a normal action figure with two halves of a Sedan hanging off its back.

The line would involve both new characters, as well as classics like Optimus Prime, Megatron, etc.

Maybe they could even do it with Beast transformers like the great Grimlock!

What do you guys think?

I'm not trying to be mean, but to be quite honest if this was marketed towards anyone but small children (like really small children) I don't see a point. As a "young adult" line I would go as far to say it's not even worth it to call them Transformers, as they don't really transform, as much as well ... open. I also wouldn't call the line Shellformers, I don't think anyone wants a shellformer.

But again, to play off your idea and market it to younger children and call it like Playskool My First Transformers, I'd be all for them being made. Anything to get new fans into the fray to ensure this franchise never dies.

Shellformer is sorta meant to be a derogatory term. I don't think many of us here want to see a whole toy line based on a concept that we like to ridicule.

I think it sounds awful. It be be a line of repaints, where all the figures fold up the same way. It sounds more like an idea a rival company would have.

I think the Shellformers would be shelfwarmers. Yes, shelfwarming Shellformers.

I could see a line of Shellformers for little kids that all transform into crustaceans.

Only G1 Pretenders were not attached to their shell. They are like having 2 toys.
These would have a huge hunkey shell hanging off their backs? People already don't like Classics Megatrons 'wings'.

Pretenders could be updated much better now, only I fear they wouldn't sell very well.
