See, I'd be down for those for a variety of reasons: Powermaster because I skipped the Titans Return one and Laser Rod because a KO if him was my first 'G1' (as in non Beast-era) Transformers as a kid. Machine Wars/Thunderclash I'd be really down because its one more obscure late G1 guy getting made.

However I suspect they will just released a slightly tweaked 1984 Optimus design. Might as well re-relase Earthrise at that point.

I get the pessimism about it, but... I genuinely cannot imagine any way they could actually make a new G1 84 Optimus mold for Part 3. ER OP already kinda performs engineering magic with folding up the truck front into the chest, and it needed the Leader-class price point's part count allotment and engineering budget to do so. The front bumper and wheels are still hanging off the butt, but with how they're explicitly designed to be so easily removed, it feels like Hasbro was basically like "yeah, we can't figure out a way to get this even cleaner than it is, just remove the piece if you want to fully achieve the cartoon silhouette". They've reached basically the pinnacle of the G1 Optimus design in terms of what they can achieve at retail (Siege the pinnacle at Voyager class, Earthrise the pinnacle at Leader class), so they kinda have to do something fresher for Part 3.

I know, I know but I just get the impression we're always gonna have to get a 1984 cuboid cab cartoon-accurate Optimus in CHUG every single line from here on out. Hence why at this point I think they should just re-release Earthrise for the next few years because they can't really outdo it until the next 'leap' in toy engineering happen. "Muh brand identity!" and all that and ain't got nothing as G1 brand as Optimus Prime looking like the Sunbow cartoon.

Oh yeah. If memory serve, there's at least a red and a gray one. They did the same with MP-10. They milked that cow until blood came out!

Unlike the Seekers I'd argue this list is really just five characters over ten repaints, as all Optimus/Convoy are the same guy, as are Nemesis/Black Convoy and the two Magnus variation.

To be fair, most of these repaints are ultra limited collector items for a very specific public.

Just imagine if Skywarp was a 500$ Botcon exclusive.
(But that was kinda this with that bullsh!t Amazon exclusive for the Siege version.)

I'm just saying, a basic Optimus only repaint (into a different character) options are Nemesis Prime or Magnus, with maybe Toxitron as a rare third option. Shattered Glass is an odd case because it is the same character but of the mirror universe.

I'M pretty **** hyped for Snapdragon but anyone who has known my post for a while know that as soon as I came back here in 2017-ish during Titans Return I kept banging on about Apeface and Snapdragon and then complained endlessly during POTP and Siege until Apeface popped out of nowhere. Horrorcons are my kind of weird, 'obscure G1 crap'. However it isn't surprising I like them, given my love of triple changers and transmetals.

I don't think preordering a mainline figure is a must. In the age of the internet, if the guy won't come up locally, just order it at Amazon or something when it's out.

Not the same thing for an exclusive though.

It depends on your buying preferences. He will be a mainline release, so he should make it to stores, but it is unclear how soon that will be. Hasbro Pulse and Target have him slated for September on their pre-orders, so I wouldn't expect to see him in stores much earlier than July/August in a normal year, who knows with the way this year is going.

I generally pre-order items I know I'm going to get, and then buy them in store if I see them there first and cancel my pre-order. I'd say most of the time I can find them first locally (Chicago area if that helps). The few times I'll keep my pre-order no matter what is if I get it on a great sale price.

I agree with you, I think the more obscure characters need some attention, whether they had toys or not before. I'm honestly tired of Optimus and Megatron, but I know they can't be left out even for 1 line, which is why I was hoping Hot Rod and Grimlock would get a rest in this trilogy. Give their spots to some other figures that need updating. Personally, I'd love to see the Firecons in part 3, as well as their counterparts the Sparkabots.

With Siege having given us Spinister, and this Alternate Universe OP being a dead OP, the rest of the WFC Trilogy just needs to give us Galvatron, Scourge, Dirge, Thunderwing, and Bludgeon to give us the rest of the G1 guest stars from "Worlds Collide".

And maybe give us a Dropshot for good measure.

Probably because it's toughter to market Sleep Mode and Dead Body Optimus Prime. Especially as a retailer exclusive. Or they want to avoid spoilers for a 35 year old movie

In a retelling, not everything (or anything) has to go the same way as in an earlier telling. The ranks of the characters have changed in some instances, the spoiler for Ultra Magnus suggests another change from 'what we know as we know it', guys introduced years later have backfilled to before the war.

I wouldn't be using actual G1 as the barometer of how it's 'supposed to go.'
