Yep, definitely waiting on Optimus and Magnus, see what the leader Prime gives us. And what the G2 snow camo Megatron looks like before picking that one up

I know it would have pissed off purist but I would have loved a Leader Prime with the open mouthplate on the smaller robot. It's a look for Optimus I frankly miss, as modern mouthed Optimus go for the fully exposed mouth and nose of Movie Optimus Prime and the only other Optimus who ever rocked that look properly is Animated and that's purely because it helped make him look younger and more approachable.
Personally I'm much more a fan of opening mouthplates which remain visible rather than fully retracting but that could just be the Beast Wars fan in me being used to that look first.

Everytime I think of the slit mouthplate, I think of Primal, even seeing Cybertron Prime with that slit in the plate, I think of Primal.
but i agree, it would be cool to see more of those "half-opened" mouthplates

Recall how the new Ultra Magnus is RiD/Car Robots-based in only its vehicle mode, with its robot mode instead being very un-RiD/Car Robots-based. Knowing how this current Hasbro team seems to think that everyone only likes G1, suppose that the same may be the case for this new Optimus being Cybertron/Galaxy Force-based in only its vehicle mode and rather un-Cybertron/Galaxy Force-based in its robot mode.
That pic we see of the inner robot already pretty much still tries to adhere to the G1 Optimus look as best as it can with the use of the Cybertron Optimus truck front as its robot mode chest. For all we know, the Super Robot Mode may indeed look nothing like that of Cybertron Optimus and instead more like some G1 Era version of Optimus, be it Powermaster OP or Star Convoy or even just the vanilla G1 Optimus a la the POTP Leader toy.

Only if it was a straight-up Star Convoy that could do the base mode.

Based on what, though? Ultra Magnus uses the RiD/CR Magnus altmode but its armored up form is G1 Magnus. What's to stop Hasbro from doing the same with Optimus by making him non-G1 in altmode only and some kind of G1 Optimus in armored up robot mode?Overcracker wrote:This is definitely going for Cyb Prime in truck mode, and will likely feature a Cyb Prime chest piece for the armored up mode.

Why would we want that, Star Convoy's base mode is probably the worse from G1.

I very much doubt it since the sculpt and alt mode don't look like anything directly from the fan art and the color layout and head sculpt is still accurate to her cartoon appearance.
Emerje
Well, the altmode is limited by using Moonracer's mold with minimal retooling.
And I was more ruminating on the possibility, since Hasbro has pulled that for.
I still think it's a shame that Dazzlestrike is black instead of orange. Orange would go with the fire and make up for the actual Lionizer being the wrong color:
Speaking of Lionizer, anyone done Cybertron Smokescreen holding him, since that's the closest we have to a new Rad?
ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:And my point was that steals_your_goats saying "And now that micromasters are a main focus it would make more sense to do a Star Convoy." only really works if we get a Star Convoy that turns into a Micromaster-compatible base.

yeah that makes sense.
Anyways, do we need more bases? We have tons from Titans Return.

That didn't stop them from giving us two in Titans Return.Overcracker wrote:You mean other than the fact we already have a G1 Prime in Siege?
The inner robot is clearly G1 Optimus whose chest simply resembles a Cybertron Optimus-styled truck front. There's no other aspects from Cybertron Optimus in that design.Overcracker wrote:Cyb Prime in truck mode, some not G1 prime but not exactly Cyb prime in robot mode, and then G1 Prime in armored up mode?
Nor did that stop Hasbro from making it into such for the POTP Leader toy.Overcracker wrote:Doesn't really make sense. G1 Prime unlike Magnus does not have an armored version they can use.
And yet, Hasbro continues to churn out G1 Prime after G1 Prime no matter how many previous versions may already satisfy us.Overcracker wrote:Seems unnecessary at this point to get a 4th variation of that in under 2 years.
Seeing as how Ultra Magnus is only RiD-based in altmode and not in either of his robot modes, that leaves open the possibility for Hasbro to do whatever they may want to do with Optimus's armored robot mode, be it throwing Unicron Trilogy fans another bone with a Cybertron Optimus-based armored robot mode or a continuation of the constant G1 pandering with an armored robot mode based on any of the G1 Optimus Primes, be they the vanilla 1984 one, the Powermaster, Star Convoy, G2 Hero OP, G2 Laser OP, or whatever else they may feel compelled to give us.Overcracker wrote:And since this looks quite a bit like Cybertron Prime's cab, its easy to assume the armored mode will also go in that direction. The only reason this gets a different looking robot mode, is because of how the mold works.
Otherwise, what other armored G1 Prime could they use for the armored mode?

I don't think it will be that last one, since A. they only just did that in PotP and B. They have a vanilla (more or less) G1 Optimus in this line already!
Now yes, the inner robot is G1 Optimus but with Cybertron Optimus' cab as a chest. However, that much can just be put down to the limits of him being an Ultra Magnus retool.
A few points:
1. If the vehicle mode was full-on Cybertron Optimus it wold be hard for the super robot not to be:
2. As I pointed out before, the twin guns of the SIEGE Magnus mold are based off Cybertron Optimus' calf guns
3. The SIEGE Magnus mold would seem to be limited to a fixed wheelbase, which would go best with Cybertron Optimus' truck mode (although Star Convoy also had a non-pivoting trailer).

At this point, there's really no telling one way or another what kind of Optimus Prime we'll be getting for this figure's armored robot mode, whether it's a Cybertron Optimus like its altmode or a G1 Optimus like how the RiD-altmoded Magnus has two G1 robot modes.

On this I agree, but knowing how much this current Hasbro seems to love G1, it also wouldn't surprised me if they still attempted to somehow make a G1-based Optimus out of the armored robot mode despite all logic and reason of going all in on the Cybertron design of the altmode, especially after how they did Ultra Magnus.Overcracker wrote:True, all of it. But I just don't see what else they can make the armored up mode. Seems like a full on Cyb Prime homage is the easier choice, given how Magnus' armored mode works. And it will still retain enough G1-ness to satisfy them.
