Yep, definitely waiting on Optimus and Magnus, see what the leader Prime gives us. And what the G2 snow camo Megatron looks like before picking that one up

I know it would have pissed off purist but I would have loved a Leader Prime with the open mouthplate on the smaller robot. It's a look for Optimus I frankly miss, as modern mouthed Optimus go for the fully exposed mouth and nose of Movie Optimus Prime and the only other Optimus who ever rocked that look properly is Animated and that's purely because it helped make him look younger and more approachable.

Personally I'm much more a fan of opening mouthplates which remain visible rather than fully retracting but that could just be the Beast Wars fan in me being used to that look first.

Everytime I think of the slit mouthplate, I think of Primal, even seeing Cybertron Prime with that slit in the plate, I think of Primal.

Primal started the look, for sure, but it's been present here-and-there in Optimus Prime's various incarnations: the Energon Optimus Prime toy initially had a slitted mouthplate so one could argue that the design did float around a bit for the Unicron Trilogy Optimus Prime. Ultimately I get that it's very much Primal's 'thing' but I always liked it over a fully exposed mouth. Optimus Prime designs are defined by that samurai-esque mouth guard and having one which split open to allow an exposed mouth is a good compromise.

The reason I brought it up is that it's one neat detail I'd love to see in a figure that is a Cybertron Optimus/Galaxy Convoy homage.

That pic we see of the inner robot already pretty much still tries to adhere to the G1 Optimus look as best as it can with the use of the Cybertron Optimus truck front as its robot mode chest. For all we know, the Super Robot Mode may indeed look nothing like that of Cybertron Optimus and instead more like some G1 Era version of Optimus, be it Powermaster OP or Star Convoy or even just the vanilla G1 Optimus a la the POTP Leader toy.

Technically Cybertron Optimus had a pseudo-split that the full mouthplate slid up in front of. Both on the toy and in-show. But same effect overall.

I don't think it will be that last one, since A. they only just did that in PotP and B. They have a vanilla (more or less) G1 Optimus in this line already!

Now yes, the inner robot is G1 Optimus but with Cybertron Optimus' cab as a chest. However, that much can just be put down to the limits of him being an Ultra Magnus retool.

A few points:
1. If the vehicle mode was full-on Cybertron Optimus it wold be hard for the super robot not to be:

2. As I pointed out before, the twin guns of the SIEGE Magnus mold are based off Cybertron Optimus' calf guns
3. The SIEGE Magnus mold would seem to be limited to a fixed wheelbase, which would go best with Cybertron Optimus' truck mode (although Star Convoy also had a non-pivoting trailer).

I'd go for Powermaster with Apex Armor, as that what Cybertron Prime's trailer resembled in execution: new boots, backpack with wings, only things missing are the gloves and the chest plate.

It could very well be true, and if so, that would kinda suck. Here's hoping it's a bit more Galaxy force than Star Convoy, though I can't say a Star Convoy wouldn't please me

Why would we want that, Star Convoy's base mode is probably the worse from G1.

Nah, Magnus turns into a flat nose truck. Star Convoy was a long nose truck. Which means a truck mode that won't look like Star Convoy at all.

Also the chest here, is clearly a Cybertron Prime truck mode style cab, and not the Robot mode chest that was the Cybertron homage to Star Convoy.

Note that Cybertron Prime did not use the truck's cab as his chest.

It's not horrible as far as being a Micromaster playset goes, from what I see:

I made an edit to an earlier post that said something about this. Like, if they went full Cybertron Optimus with the altmode it would be difficult to do a Super Robot mode that wasn't Cybertron Optimus or close to it. They could end up doing Cybertron Optimus' cab and a different trailer/back though.

Although, on that note, it's possible Hasbro themselves used that art for reference given their f***up with the Combiner Wars G2 Stunticons.

I very much doubt it since the sculpt and alt mode don't look like anything directly from the fan art and the color layout and head sculpt is still accurate to her cartoon appearance.

Well, the altmode is limited by using Moonracer's mold with minimal retooling.
And I was more ruminating on the possibility, since Hasbro has pulled that for.

I still think it's a shame that Dazzlestrike is black instead of orange. Orange would go with the fire and make up for the actual Lionizer being the wrong color:

You mean other than the fact we already have a G1 Prime in Siege?

The next best thing, is Powermaster Prime which we already got twice in Titans Return and then somewhat of a nod in Power of the Primes.

Seems unnecessary at this point to get a 4th variation of that in under 2 years.

And since this looks quite a bit like Cybertron Prime's cab, its easy to assume the armored mode will also go in that direction. The only reason this gets a different looking robot mode, is because of how the mold works.

Uh, not sure if I'm completely late to the party, but I know there was some discussion on the codes that are "hidden" on the Siege boxes. I just wanted to let people know that you actually don't need a black light to view the code. It is on the artwork panel of the boxes, and in Sideswipe's case diagonally across the bottom of the artwork, and at the right angle the glyphs can be viewed and decoded. Also, it appears that there is more of a dynamic to the artwork as some of the UV sensitive paint is also on the image.

Just thought that this tidbit would be appreciated. Sides feels really good in hand and almost as beefy as the Masterpiece, but several inches shorter.

At this point, there's really no telling one way or another what kind of Optimus Prime we'll be getting for this figure's armored robot mode, whether it's a Cybertron Optimus like its altmode or a G1 Optimus like how the RiD-altmoded Magnus has two G1 robot modes.

They have a vanilla (more or less) G1 Optimus in this line already!", having just done Powermaster Prime in the immediately preceding line seemed to preclude them doing another PMOP as the evolution Optimus. So I think the same would prevent them from doing vanilla G1 Optimus as an armored mode again right away.

Full clarification, when I say "G1 Optimus" I don't mean strictly the 1984 design, but G1 Optimus the character, who had multiple looks across his 1984-1995 toy era, but all of which were those of "G1 Optimus the character". Whereas Cybertron Optimus was unique in both design and character, considered a different person altogether from the various iterations of G1 Optimus.

So when I said that we got two toys of G1 Optimus in Titans Return, I meant that the Powermaster and Laser OP toys were both based on designs of G1 Optimus the character. And that while the altmode of the new Leader Optimus toy will be based on that of the different-character Cybertron Optimus, his robot modes could very well follow in the footsteps of Ultra Magnus by resembling the look of a different-character Optimus from the Cybertron one, and if it were to do so, it's very plausible that Hasbro, in their current G1 pandering mindset, would try to find a way to get an armored robot mode out of the new Leader Optimus toy that would look like any of the vintage designs of G1 Optimus the character.

On this I agree, but knowing how much this current Hasbro seems to love G1, it also wouldn't surprised me if they still attempted to somehow make a G1-based Optimus out of the armored robot mode despite all logic and reason of going all in on the Cybertron design of the altmode, especially after how they did Ultra Magnus.
