oh cool, i have a timeshare there. it's in the ninth circle. a nice neighbourhood.

I think he's referring to Telford :P

Nice to see you missed me Dealer :P

But of course ;)Whatcha been up to mate!

Not too much man, finishing school work, dreading/looking foward to college, all that stuff, you? Whats been going on while i've not been around?

Also I got an Xbox for christmas before with Halo Reach if that means anything to anyone haha

Mostly the same, uni life gets pretty run of the mill after a while. Couldn't tell ya what's been going on really I'm afraid, I've mostly migrated to tfw! :P

Indeed Nova, welcome to the ODB! Which stands for the Official Disgruntled Brits. Cos, you know, Hasbro's always screwing us one way or another lol

I'm afraid for the cool 3rd party stuff you'll need to check tfw. The Radicons section produces a lot of cool upgrades for toys old and new, and you can get comissions done real easy (but probably not cheap ;p).

That truly is a wonderful collection, it must have been a long, drawn out decision to sell them on. I'm truly impressed, and horrified.

One thing's for sure though, you're going to make a mint off of them.

Sorry to grill you mate, but is that you done then? Out of collecting for good? Will you stick around for the media side of things?
I don't think I could ever sell my classics collection, and yours is as complete as mine.

Not really, I made the decision to leave the country with no savings and sell everything I own leaving myself homeless and jobless in about 30 seconds. Thats seriously how unhappy I am with my life right now.

City Commander wrote:One thing's for sure though, you're going to make a mint off of them.

I won't make anything near what I paid for them. Like I said in the item descriptions I'll start them all at prices far below what I paid. I just want to be rid of them.

I've not really got any intention of sticking with any part of collecting for fear of getting pulled back in. If you'd have asked me a few weeks back if I'd ever sell my collection I'd have said the same thing but I realised I don't get any enjoyment out of any of it. I pay a fortune for stuff, transform it once then put it in my spare room and never look at it again.

hmm well as long as you're sure dude, no regrets no remorse and all that.

Oh of course! Toys is a horrible way of making money :lol But you might make back a decent chunk considering what you own and the condition they seem to be in. You'll definitely make more on your 3rd party gear at least. I'll definitely keep all eyes on your auctions dude!

I guess that's fair man, I'll always stick with my classics cos I transform them and "play" with them fairly regularly, and the way they all look makes me happy. Well, fair play mate, I wish you all the best in the future and that you find the happiness you're looking for!

well i hope everything works out for you in some shape or another, btw what country are you thinking of going to?

and maybe you can pop in here once in a while, to keep us updated on how ur doing ?

as for the collecting,i also feel the same as you sometimes

get a new tf transform it without instructions so i can learn the complexity of it and appreciate it for what it is then display him, and never touch him for another month or two

thinking about it its quite hard to put your finger on why we individually collect

It's interesting to think about one's motivations for collecting. I often question myself about why, but I've never come up with a satisfactory answer beyond "Why not?" ... In a way I'm in the same boat as The Legend, I buy a figure transform it then put it on display and never touch it aside from doing some dusting. It all seems a bit crazy and wasteful, yet it's so hard to resist. I don't know... Addicted to that fleeting moment of happiness that buying something gives me. Consumer culture at its worst, and I'm part of it. Ugh.

As for the issue of shelf space, I had originally intended to have a full Neo G1 classics collection, but the issue of space got in the way of that and I sold everything except my Skywarp collection.

I don't regret that at all though! The cost was getting a bit absurd and I find that just sticking to my two favourite characters drastically reduced the absurd expenditure that Classics had caused. Which made my wallet heavier and kept me happy at the same time.

And leaves me free to fill up my quickly diminishing free space with all the other crap I collect too. Image

We're so close to a full set of Ark Autobots now that stopping collecting is actually on the horizon for me. Once I've got my ark bots and my season 3 bots I think I'm done.

Apart from gestalts. If 3rd party Computron, Superion and Defensor make a showing I will be buying them. And even a decent G1 OS- not a necessity though like the others, since the energon release does me quite nicely.

If I can just manage to sell off the fat I'll be happy. But problem is, in this consumer culture we live in, nobody wants to pay a reasonable price, always want a steal.
Or maybe I've got too high expectations for my stuff. Who knows.
If anyone has the time to have a flick through my sales thread on tfw, I'd love to have any and all feedback on my pricing.

isn't this replacing your old habit with another? a bit counter productive if ur trying to save dough

but although money is a big effecting factor when it comes to collecting, i feel space is just as important, i'm not one of those people who like to pile everything in one shelf, i like to display them in small groups of relevance

but i do agree with pretty much all of what tekka says about collecting, but basically the pringles man sed it best "once you start you just can't stop" there are exceptions to the rule

I'm sure nostalgia has a big part to play in why we collect, maybe complexity of design? or the fact they are bad ass robots?

one thing i'm sure of is that transformers has had alot of publicity, and although i had my childhood collection, i would never of thought of collecting if it wasn't for the community or the 2007 movie

For me, nostalgia plays a HUGE role. Though I do love the media behind them, the character development in places, the genius behind most figures, the fact they're basically 3d puzzles that keep you thinking. I just love em.

But the adult in me says I should be responsible and reasonable, and only keep hold of the ones that mean the most. If it weren't for Buster Prime, I would probably have gotten rid of my movie stuff altogether.

The online community has done both terrible and great things for me. Terrible, in that I now have access to pretty much anything I want. Great, in that since I can have just what I want I don't try to fill the void with other figures like I used to.

Tis a wise idea to have a good idea of what your long term goals are though. Can't be collecting forever, where would we put em all! :lol

On that note, please peruse http://theoldoilhouse.madmooseforum.com ... =3871#3871

I'll be posting the exact same here shortly. I removed my tfw prices because they're probably too much, I'd rather peeps tell me what they think is fair and talk about it from there tbh. That way we can reach a deal that makes us both happy.

So go forth and spend money! :P Deals on bulk purchases!

Thing is I'd be buying this stuff anyway, because my hobby doesn't start and stop with Transformers.

If you look at something like Revoltech Jehuty and consider how rare it is to see merchandise from Zone of the Enders, it's not that big of a spend. But then you have Transformers, and Habro are releasing them constantly so it adds up to spending way more than on one rare figure.

but theres things in tf collecting like if you don't get it now when its reasonable its gonna cost you down the line, that makes it hard to be responsible and reasonable

but i feel i've been reasonable and responsible by cutting out animated and movie stuff

thats pretty true, i didn't know it was zone of the enders

i suppose once you've caught the collecting bug, its tough to get out of it

its just that when it comes to tf's the scale of its ridiculous
