I only have seen a handful of Alternators actually in retail for the past 6 months and that was a random stock of the last wave of Optimus, Rollbar, Skids, and Ricochet. Skids actually ended up in the clearance section at 1 Wal-Mart before eventually getting gobbled up. Up until about August, you could get him online for retail price quite easily. So, no, *rare* and Alt. Skids don't go together in the same sentence.

My take on Skids: A very underrated figure in this line, contributed mostly to the obscurity of the character(I think he appeared once in the cartoons and in about 3 issues of the comics) and the lack of sex appeal to the Scion itself. Skids actually was a better choice than Ironhide for this vehicle, IMO, since the Scion is marketed to the terminally uncool and rather dorky, which fit Skids' scientific approach to things. It's a shame Ironhide didn't make it in to the Alternators line, but it was also cool to see an overlooked character like Skids get his day in the sun.

The robot mode of Skids is one of the best in the line, possibly the best design since he truly looks like a complete robot and, unlike many of the other Alts., doesn't suffer from the "folded up front seat chest" many of the figures share in common. Again, the Scion is kind of boring, but it's cool to see something really different than another Japanese sports car or another Viper remold. Plus, there was never a repaint for the Scion, which truly makes it rare in this line in that regard!

Plus i like toy cars that you can see everyday in the streets, as opposed to super cars that you only see in magazines. "Everyday common cars" are much more fun to see transform into a robot.

Very true, the alt mode has a surprising amount of empty space inside that is not evident in robot mode. I like seeing them IRL on the street, knowing that it may be a Robot in Disguise! :-B (I always look for the giant feet in the luggage area...)

You know, I never used to pay any attention to Scions before, but now, each time I see one, I think "Oh, there's Skids."

You will love it when you get one.

Most of my Alternators are just displayed in the shelves. But Skids, i get to play so often. I take him out all the time. He sits on my desk. Do some crazy poses.
