Any G1 only collectors?
I watched the movie and loved it, but the figures just dont make we want to buy them at all. Beast Wars and that stuff in my opinion was crap, and I dont like the figures either.

Not me, I pretty much love figures from every series. They both have their ups and downs, so to stick to only one means you'll end up with a lot of good stuff and a lot of crap.
G1 was unique in that the figures were more like models. Can I suggest alternators and MPs for you? They seem to recreate that g1 feel, for me at least.

Yes, quite a few i us actually. I collect G1, Diaclone/Microman and other G1 related stuff like SCF, BT, MP Classics etc. along with some figures from other series that were missing from G1, like Unicron, Primus, Alpha Trion, etc. OK, I also have a soft spot for RID as the libe has a number of G1 reminiscent pieces.
Anywho, to the point. After watching the movie I decided to add a movie display to my collection. It is not G1, however, it is a huge part of G1 history now and I felt it needed some representation. To that end, I went for one model of every character in the movie.

I'm wit yuse! G1 baby!
Anyway, I collect G1/G2, KO's/bootlegs of G1/G2. The only character from Armada is Unicron. The fig from Energon is Unicron. The only ones from Cybertron are Primus and can you guess...that's right, Unicron(hmm, I see a trend).
My only Tit is Scourge and mini, shall I say it...Unicron!
No Beasties or Galaxy Force, or PVC's, or Movie line, or Chrono Q's or are there anymore?
Oh yeah, none of the little guys that don't transform, even though they have a, a, a, Unicron.(however, I still may pick some up to hold in storage if I ever knock my wife up, you know for the kids and all).
So G1 is great.
I really don't have anything against the other lines, they just don't appeal to me, and since it's MY money, I would at least want them to appeal to me.

I'd like to be a G1 only collector, but... some of those toys were crap. And some of the new stuff is great. I tend to collect stuff that has a G1 feel to it. Not quite sure how to explain that. As an example, I bought Cybertron Swindle and Hard Top, because they sort of felt like a modern take on minibots. Reminds me, I need to pick up a spare one to paint as Beachcomber.

I collect g1 more than anything else. G1 is my favorite line. Got a few classics. Some are nice ,and glnesk. Only got Unicron from the Armada line ,and only Primus from the Cybertron line. Have alternators Hound, Smokescreen, and Sideswipe.

KInd of how I feel about it. Mainly G1, but nice updates and homages are a must...
And then buy the rest because you don't want to 'miss out' on something cool, and have to buy it later at inflated prices.

I can only speak for myself, but in theory the Masterpiece line is great. I bought MP Prime (well, Convoy. No battle damage or short stacks for this boy
) as soon as I could get the cash together. Not interested in MP Magnus, unless I see him cheap. Megs I'm sorta divided on. I like him, but the cartoon resemblance isn't as strong as with Prime. And the more I see the Starscream/Seeker mould, the less I like it.
So, in conclusion... I seem to have no idea.

In my mind, Masterpiece and Alternators are homages/updates, of G1, thus worth collecting even if they were not part of the original line in this form. It is obvious they are the same characters.

Yeah, I'd go along with that. The Alternators generally seem pretty believable as forms most of the characters would have upgraded to (Grimlock aside) after Season 3-4.

G1 rules but I have an open mind when it comes to new toy tech and what they can improve on. Die-cast construction though is a lost art.
BWOP: "Die-cast construction...It's a lost art!"
Longs for the days of G1 where we only had to worry about Megatron, Soundwave and Laserbeak wanting to be Autobots, Swoop calling himself Tracks and Slingshot calling himself Slingslot!
