Hmm, where was that in the article? I swear it wasn't in the one I read. lol.
But I like it on some level, but I'm glad they didn't use it. One 4500/5500 chassis was enough, and Ironhide still looked better then this Ratchet, so they made a decent choice.

but you have to think it looks better than the neon green Rachet right

Actually I like the movie color of Ratchet, same color as the ambulances in my town. And the the bot concept looks funny in that color, almost a purple/pink red. Reminds me of Arcee for some reason. I might photoshop it green and see how I feel, but I'd probably like the green more.

a green ambluance? Well I can't say your opinion is wrong but some people including me aren't too fond of the green, yellow maybe but green no.

Like I said, all our ambulances here are the same color. So I'm pretty comfortable with it.

...I fukkin' knew it. Those lousy cheats.
so i can't make an accurate transformation (as many of you guys have made clear) but i do want to at least be able to come up with a transformable prime that's
1. to scale
2. has a close-to-movie robot form
i'll try to post up some pics of my progress. i have to do this kind of ghetto style until i get more time to get better materials. right now i'll be working with cardstock and wire to get a feel for how much mass i need.
-any of yall have suggestions for making stuff like this?
let me know any suggestions you guys would want for the figure, like features, weapons, lights, details etc. i'm pretty excited because now i know for sure taht it's impossible to duplicate the movie ahhaa. i'll have more creative liberty. keep posting everyone, i'll read anything yall post and feel free to pm me. plus someone needs to tell me how to post pics anyway lol
I have to say, you're a brave, brave soul to undertake such a task. Please continue to post your progress, and I hope you do manage to pull it off. It should be at least technically possible to come up with something more accurate than the toy. Such a task is hugely ambitious, but if you do manage it, it'll be all kinds of awesome. Good luck with it!
Now, to post images: There's basically 2 ways.
1. The way I like to do it is to first upload the image to any image hosting site, like imageshack, for example.
Then to display the image here, you copy the URL and paste it between the IMG tags in your post. Before you post, you can use the 'preview' button to make sure it's working. Here's an example of what the code should look like:
- Code: Select all
[img]http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/4519/spyshot1ol9.jpg[/img]
That produces this:

2. The other way to post images is easier again. If you look at the bottom of the post form, there's a section called 'Add an Attachment'.
Under 'Filename', you click on 'Browse' and select the image from your computer's hard drive. Then you click 'Add Attachment' below.
That comes out like this:

hey yall
^thanks bumblethumper
after alot of sketching and conceptual junk i finally figured out a hypothetically workable transformation. the only problem i have right now is what the back cabin of the truck becomes. any ideas?
if ya'll want i can post pictures of my sketches .
im going to use some putty and a wire frame for now plus plastic (depending on if i can get a hold of the peterbilt model kit) to try to make what i drew to see if it will actually work well. sorry it took me so long, im doing neuroscience at college right now and its hard to do this while studying for tests.
got any ideas for me to add ?

I think the CGI transformation is just bull. Parts come out randomly from here and there. It's so fast, that it makes you believe it is transforming properly.
Now that i got the DVD, i paused the transformations several times. There's no consistency. Things just magically sprout out from nowhere. Totally different from the toys.
But you won't make any progress either if you try to stay true to the CGI sequence. Won't get you anywhere.

The CGI team probably cheated some on the transformation.

"Some" is a gross understatement.
I haven't seen a single transformation in the Movie that didn't do a lot of heavy cheating.
The only TF CGI transformstion that doesn't cheat is probably Beast Wars.

yeah i know that the cgi prime does alot of improbable stuff. my goal is to have a prime that can be scale to teh peterbilt truck while being able to transform into a prime that looks like the movie one.
the movie bumblebee figure for example, it doesn't look exactly like the movie one, but it captures the scale , shape and character of the movie one. I know its impossible, but i'm pretty sure that a better , or at least better looking movie figure can be done.
plus the "move replica" figures even suck, so there has yet to be a good movie prime in robot mode at least. so i think why not just make a transforming one.
so , anyone have any ideas what i can maket he back cabin into?

Well in the actual movie transformation, the back part of the cabin seems to transform into part of the upper legs. Personally, I think that seems a bit convoluted, pointlessly over complex.
When I compare Movie Prime with Masterpiece Prime, they're about the same size in truck mode, but in bot mode, Movie Prime is a lot shorter. There seems to be a lot of unused parts that fold around to the back. He's carrying a lot of bulk back there that if you could find some way of using in the transformation, the bot mode could be a good bit taller.
Other than that, you could have the back cabin be a hollow shell that folds in on itself, so even if it doesn't form any useful part, it at least collapses down to less bulk.

Personally, Voyager Prime is closer in transformation to the movie than leader Prime. So, I'd work off of that. The legs being the most accurate. The chest area you can improve a lot on Voyager prime by somehow getting the correct side of cab to come around to the front. Get rid of the disappearing driver, and store his head back there instead. That's all you can really do. Haven't figured out where to relocate his hood area.

Beast Wars cheats quite a bit actually, especially in the first season(Dinobot and Waspinator in particular). The last two seasons are pretty accurate though.
Energon and Cybertron are probably the most accurate however, since it looks like they essentially just rendered the toys in CGI and didn't do any filling or cleaning.

Unfortunately, i haven't seen any epiode of Energon and Cybertron. I hope i can find a DVD copy of those.

dude..what the heck? I would have loved ratchet if he turned out like that, although they could've fixed the anime happy eyes. But seriously...I think that version looks a lot better than what we got, IMO. mann

Nice sketch man. I mold movie prop replicas myself and have seriously been thinking about doing the same thing as you. Maybe not as big of a project as yours, but just my own small transformer. I was thinking of making a classic car transformer called Kill Switch.
Anyway, on the link that showed the animation, you can see that the whole backside of the truck flipped around to the front and back again to make the legs. That seems like it would be hard to do.

i got something for yall

i got a plastic model kit peterbilt and cut it up and put it on a wire frame. these are teh only parts from the truck form that i can figure out so far concretely. i have no idea still, where the back cabin goes/becomes. but yes, i do have all teh peices for the truck and there is a buttload of stuff. but right now im just trying to get the basic structure so i can get started on teh transforming part
