[quote="Gauntlet101010"]You know, I just call anything that's a new take on a G1 toy "Neo". From the most faithful masterpeice to something from the Energon line that homages an earlier figure. It's all just a new version of something G1 ... Neo G1.
Anyhow, pure G1 from robot to alt. mode is really rare in collecting. You may as well complain about the names.
I'm right there with you. Masterpieces, at least the seekers and the upcoming cars, do at least use the same alt modes as the originals, and the bot modes are usually spot on. they're a class of their own.
virtually everything else is neo g1, or not related. (or movie, where admittedly they at least didn't just try to make everything an updated version of g1. i just don't like what they did with it). even stuff with isn't strictly a representation of a g1 character can end up heavily influenced by them. plenty of people repurpose toys as other characters than their official names. hell that's what the 3rd party scene is!
i will admit though, the more expensive something is, added to how fond I am of the original designs will make me more and more keen to something very close to the g1 look. $20 GDO Springer doesn't look exactly like Springer to me, but he's on my shelfs when $90 FP Defender isn't, because he doesn't look enough like Springer to me to warrant the price.
Of course, in this particular case the only Throttlebot besides Goldbug I have any real nostalgia towards is WideLoad, and won't mind an updated take on his alt mode (wouldn't be surprised to see them try and make the truck bed hollower than the original) so long as he retains the blinding colours in bot mode. (oh, it'd be cool if he had his wee cheeky faceplate too, but its not a deal-breaker)
assembling a Neo-G1/TF:TM cast. Please PM if you have (or know of) the following at a reasonable price: Classics or Henkei Astrotrain, Sunstreaker, Sideswipe, or 3rd Party iGear Ratchet and Ironhide.
Also looking for Universe Repugnus and Overbite, Frostbite and Longhorn and any Webdiver toys.
