So, it's a website for the GI Joe movie/fanbase? Cool beans.
And it's good to see GI Joe having a meaning.

That breaking news is indeed breaking... very Heart Breaking indeed. GI Joe is an American tradition not backed by the UN or anything like that. Eh well thats not entirely true. Its still a primarily American run organization with spot global influences. Changing it all for profit, bah just because they don't think GI Joe A Real American Hero will sell anything abroad.

I'm very disappointed about their stance on G.I.Joe. Basically what they're saying is that they're embarressed by the idea of American soldiers fighting international terrorists (hitting a bit close to home for some people) and changing the entire premise.
Not G.I.Joe.

I found a way to make this Transformers related ... the news post about this and TF2 can be found here: http://seibertron.com/news/view.php?id=11474

Embarrassed?
This may come as a suprise but Joe may have an international fan base but it's not as big as people expect it to be.
Something had to give to make it appeal to international audiences otherwise it would be a case of "oh great, here we go again, another american military wankfest".
I'm no fan but I can just imagine the reaction from fans will be for this little change.

That news absolutely sucks..
I wonder how else they can ruin it..
WOW, if this is the case then why change it???

Nice job getting the info on the Joe site Ryan.

Not a sheeple.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

Yes, but it's a sure bet that a vast majority of them know what G.I.Joe is. I can understand a name change for other countries, like Action Force and the like, but this isn't even remotely similar.

It's a weak excuse. There are plenty of movies that use American military as a central premise (Transformers being one of the them) and they've all been international successes. The material here is that it's a bit too close to home and they just can't handle it.
As I said, the name is usually changed for other countries but the basic premise has been the same. This isn't G.I.Joe.

Don't ask, they've already made Destro the leader of Cobra. Or worse yet, they've merged the two together...shudder.

And here we go again. Another Whine Tasting, just like we had for the past few years with Transformers.
GI Joe: What the hell did that even mean? Government Issue Joe? Joe never appeared in anything after they introduced A Real American Hero.
I much prefer thew whole name being an acronym. It actually makes sense.
And I realize that most Spy Units would have to work internationally. Brussels is actually a pretty good place for a Spy-Unit. Right smack-dab in the middle of Eurasia, where they can get to Asia, Africa, the Middle East, or the rest of Europe rather easily. (Treadstone, the Spy Unit from the Bourne movies, was based out of Brussels.)
As long as Destro is being controlled by Cobra Commander secretly, and Snake Eyes doesn't talk, I'll be happy.

Oh, and I hate to double post, but this'll probably be missed if I edit it:
Militaries LOVE acronyms. I'm not kidding, Army/Navy/USAF lingo is laced with acronyms, and sometimes backronyms. (A single word used as the basis for an acronym)

I know it isn't. But like I said, they want this to be an international success. Having it revolve around a US Military special ops group will turn people away.
Turn it into an international anti-terrorist group and it'll appeal to the masses.
Sucks? Sure. No argument there. But maybe fans will be lucky and that's all they'll change. If they pull the characterisations off perfectly, will the acronym really matter?

As long as they don't screw the charactors up too bad, I don't think the name change will bother a lot of people. It doesn't bother me too much.

Well, G.I.Joe: A Real International Hero
just doesn't sound the same(or right).
Sorry.
It's too bad they have to sully such a great concept
just to sell it world wide.
Yo Joe!

You'd be surprised. G.I.Joe has a huge international following, with figures produced and released in dozons of countries including Japan, Brazil, France, and even China. In most european countries the line is called Action Force (after Action Man - and since the term G.I. in not common term in these countries) but the premise has always been the same.

I highly doubt it, and it's not just an acronym change. I'd be very surprised if they included more popular characters without changing them completely. They've already done so with Destro and Cobra.
They'll probably make Snake-Eyes black, Austrialian with thick accent who "knows" karate.
And here we go again. Another Whine Tasting, just like we had for the past few years with Transformers.
It's not the same thing. The new movie was still about giant robots that transform into vehicles in the middle of a war on Earth. Nothing about this basic premise of Transformers has been changed.
Now imagine if Bay changed Transformers into human built, three foot tall androids who turned into go-carts. All the pieces are there, it's just not the same picture.

You know, if only they made the movie based on the Cobra/Joe Reborn and GI Joe Reloaded comics.
Which for those who are unfamiliar with it, can see examples here
Those kicked all sorts of ass.

Ah...Ultimate G.I.Joe...but with less ultimate. Actually, I didn't like them too much. It was too predictable, and had nothing on the original comic. Apparently, a great number agreed with that because it was cancelled after a year.
But then, different strokes for different folks.
