Just wondering, is there any program or hardware that can incredibly enhance a laptop's memory amount?
I'm not talking just regular Flash Drives that add 8 GB, but rather something that could like double the memory.
The issue is that I have only one laptop at my place and I would like to restart with my tribute videos, but it takes up too much memory for me to be able to use my laptop for other things as well.

Not really, back in the day you could create a RAM disk, but that won't work anymore on newer machines. You could increase your swap space, but in terms of increasing memory, you just have to buy more.

I'm confused here. You speak of needing memory and then go on to say that a flash drive with 8GB isn't enough.....So do you mean storage capacity or memory?
I know Vista can use a flash drive as extra memory so that might be what you're talking about. But I doubt it.

You can try playing around with the virtual memory settings, but that may not help you much. Your best bet would probably to add memory. Memory prices right now are fairly cheap too, depending on what you need. I picked up 2x1GB DIMM's of DDR2 667 RAM for my PC for about $90 on Newegg.com.
EDIT: Now that I think about it, how much of an increase are you looking for? I re-read your post and I can't figure out if you are referring to onboard memory or hard drive space. I can see what TheMuffin's confused about. When you say "double the memory", how much do you need if 8GB isn't enough???

That has no effect on your memory.
sorry, i thought he meant storage because he mentioned flash drives.

Thanks, Tweezy

This is great that Vista tries to implement this but it doesn't increase it by that much, better by replacing or adding a extra stick to the laptop.

Well, the program I use takes up about half of my memory, so there is no way to put it on a flash drive. I guess I'll just get a bunch of flash drives for the source material (dvd and cd files) that I use when making my tributes.
I was just asking to ask, so that I wasn't merely assuming.

I have a laptop that has Vista on it, of course not by choice and I got it for free through AMD training/convention, so I can't complain but when I was demo-ing SQL Server 2005 and Oracle 11i to my group of programmers at my job, it brought my laptop to a screeching hault, even with empty data files (clean database, not populated just yet).
I had to get a extra gig to make ends meet, but so far no probs and all is well.
Again Vista has the option to take flash sticks that either boost up for RAM (allocating a vitural feel for system RAM)or you can use them as flash drives (extra hard drive space) but the increase is not the same performance as internal RAM on the MB.

Are you talking about Random Access Memory, or Hard Disk space?
