Hey Brits, need some info on Gordon Brown...

Postby Omnus » Sat Jun 30, 2007 2:10 pm

All I know about the man is that he is from Scotland.

I have a couple questions about him.
1. In the Press, Is Brown considered a savior or a weakling after Blair's reign of terror?
2. In the Press, What stance does he take on the War of Terror?
3. In the Press, how does he feel about the EU and the new constitution?

I wish I knew someplace else to ask these questions, but this is the only place I know where our Puddle-brothers make appearances. I would just google him, but I want the peoples opinion, not googles.

The reason I ask these questions is I get the feeling that the 'Powers that Be' are not to happy with the idea of Brown being in charge for the next few years. Trying to make him look bad by letting a couple bombs be found... not to mention ramming a flaming SUV into his hometown airport.

Motto: ""Life is all about risks and it requires you to jump. Don't be a person who has to look back and wonder what they would have or could have had. No one lives forever.""

I sincerely doubt that these attacks were not orchestrayed by the 'powers that be'.

1) The media of Britain, from my understanding, are generally warm towards Brown. Except of course the right-wing papers such as the Daily Mail and the Daily Express, but they hate everything remotely left-wing. The media acknowledge his role as Chancellor in the Blair regime, but Brown has promised change, and at least the media are giving him a chance on the whole.

2) What do you mean? He's pledged to bring troops home from Iraq, starting a steady withdrawal. But he is putting troops into Afghanistan. The press are quite happy with this.

3) Brown is a control freak, and the concensus in the press is that he won't be quite as pro-European as his predecessor and fight for British, and his, sovereignty. That's one issue which Brown had over Blair in so far as he'll fight for British interests.

It's safe to assume that I'm just taking the piss.

It's hard to get a clear global picture from american news groups, hence my questions. Also, Britain is the playground of democratic evolution.

Thanks for the info. I hope he's not screwing around.

I just came across this thing about Jack Straw... Did he just separate his chair from the rest of parliament?

You know Dick Cheney is in the process of doing that same exact move. Lord Chancellor and Vice President are basically the same position.

Has this connection been reported in the media back by you?

I thought the Chancellor of the exchequer was quite different from the position of vice president(that position being more akin to deputy prime minister)?

I'm also intrigued to what makes you think Britain is the playground of democratic evolution?
