So I got a second Mirage from the box set. I wanted to strip all his paint off of him and have him be just clear. However, I know that paint thinner fogs the plastic, and Goo Gone seems to not have enough kick. Do yall know of a paint remover that should get the paint off PVC without ruining the plastic?

91 percent Alcohol should do it, I am currently repainting Soundwave and Bumblebee, the clear mirage would look nice, but I will wait to do that when I find the set in stores cehap, not goign to do it to my set now.

Yes, I know. That's why I want to strip him, so he will be totally clear, instead of clear with white and silver paint. The regular Mirage doesn't have clear parts at all.

Pretty much anything that will remove the paint is going to cause some fogging because of the plastic used. But doing a light soak in either goo gone or 90% Alcohol should loosen up the paint enough that you rub it off with Q-tips and a damp rag. If it doesn't all come off after the first soak rinse him thoroughly then put him back in. The Rinsing between soaks should help mitigate the fogging a bit. As long as its fairly short soaks, you shouldn't need more then about five-ten minutes at a pop and you rinse him any fogging should be barely noticeable.

An amonia based cleaner like Windex or Pine Sol should be safe for the plastic. You'll probably have to let it soak for a while, though. I've also heard of suggestions for brake fluid (Make sure you get some that plastic safe) and Easy Off oven cleaner. Whetever you use, you'll probably want to test it first, someplace where it won't show.

Brasso seems to work well on clear parts, as far as I've noticed. It takes a bit more elbow grease than 91% alcohol, but it does the trick.

The other thing I would say is NOT to use Goo Gone on any level. Even the tiniest bit fogs up clear plastics quickly.

Yep. Tried this amongst my mounds of paperwork. Don't use Goo Gone. Still trying to get my hands on some Brasso.
