I find that, when doing energy glows, or anything of that sort, it's best to use multiple colours. In this case orange as the base, then yellow in a few areas (maybe even a bit of red) would really help to accentuate the lines and make the glow feel more real. Oh, I see. Hmm, well, details can be affected by photography so the yellow might just appear to be popping out more than if I were to see the gun in person. However, I think orange would be a great choice to depict energy glow as it wouldn't contrast as sharply with black as the shade of yellow appears to the photo.
