To Watch: Car Robots or RiD?
Hey all, I've decided I need to catch up on my Transformers fiction, and to start I'm going to watch Car Robots/RiD, then Superlink, and maybe move on to Animated.
So which version of Car Robots/RiD is considered superior? Preferably I'd like to watch whichever one is less silly, and that usually tends to be the Japanese version, but I've read Car Robots is rather kid-oriented.
I chose Galaxy Force over Cybertron because I couldn't stand the voice acting and the changes that were made in the effort of fitting it into the trilogy.
So I'm thinking it may be best to watch Car Robots, but I'd like to hear other people's opinions.
Kinda looks like there is no fansub though, if that's the case I have no choice...

If you have access to both versions, go for the subbed Car Robots version. It's still a bit silly, and has 1980's style plot holes in it, but otherwise its fairly solid.
RID in itself isn't terrible, but it is even sillier than the Car Robots versions, which is something you said you wished to avoid.

Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

Alright, thanks for the advice. Unfortunately it looks like both versions are pretty hard to find. Any tips on that?

Look harder?

In all seriousness I have no idea on the release info for any DVD releases for either series, there was a DVD release of RID in the UK, goodluck tracking down a version, I have no idea on a good price for this set.
And don't hold your breath for a US RID release, to the best of my knowledge there are some licensing and distribution issues regarding Disney, Saban and the ilk.

Huh, yeah I guess I should try more than 20 minutes or so of googling.

Haha, well I sat through every episode of G1 so I'm sure I can handle it.

Well, I was able to get a hold of RiD and started watching yesterday. I'm loving it! The cheesiness is not so bad, makes it funny. I'm also suprised how close Prime's voice actor is to Peter Cullen.

Do yourself a big a favor and forget that Car Robots/RiD ever existed it's the worst Transformers series ever.

It was pretty clear I intended to watch it, and have already started, so you needn't have posted.

Oh yeah man, I agree, RiD is awesome! It was one of my favorite toylines for awhile, and now I'm really enjoying the cartoon. I probably don't plan on watching Armada but I will watch the rest.

Car Robots is way better. In that the character Gigatron is his real name and is shown as a diferent and new person.
RID was pathetic and named him Megatron for some stupid reason.
He clearly is a diferent person form Megatron but they were stupid.
The dubs are are realy patronising and silly sometimes.

Re: To Watch: Car Robots or RiD?
Yeah, a little, but I couldn't find Car Robots so I don't mind too much. It wasn't really supposed to be related to G1 anyway, they just retconned it later.

Re: To Watch: Car Robots or RiD?
I've never seen Car Robots so can only comment on RiD.
But if I had to rank all TF series from best to worst, RiD would easily be 4th on the list (behind only G1, Beast Wars, Beast Machines & Animated). When you compare it to what came afterwards (eg. Energon, Cybertron) it was superior in my opinion. Pace of story telling was fast, good story arcs, humor, and G1 inspired characters (eg. Combaticons, Fortress Maximus).

I have RID on DVD and am currently copying it to IPOD formate so I can watch some episodes on the flight to America for BOTCON.
Then again I also ripped the whole of Victory, Masterforce, Headmasters and Zone for Ipod from the uk dvd's too

He was quite good. He tried out for the voice of Prime in the movie, too, iirc. Obviously Cullen's interest squashed his chances, but I was happy when I heard he was interested.
