The three new coins issued for the Transformers 4 movie are each struck from one ounce of 99.9% pure silver to a rectangular shape. Dimensions of the lenticular silver coins are 47.60 mm by 27.60 mm by 4.00 mm. The gross weight of each is 31.135 grams. The design images are the work of Perth Mint artist Jennifer McKenna.
Inscriptions found on the reverse of the coin include TRANSFORMERS, and the name of the depicted character — OPTIMUS PRIME, BUMBLEBEE or LOCKDOWN. In addition, 1 OZ 999 SILVER is also inscribed on the reverse.
These silver coins are licensed by Hasbro and issued as legal tender under the authority of the Government of Tuvalu. Shown on the obverse is Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II along with the inscriptions of ELIZABETH II, TUVALU, 1 DOLLAR and 2014.
Adding to the unique nature of the release, the three silver coins each ship in an innovative cube shaped presentation case. Pressing a button on the case flips the lid open to reveal the coin inside surrounded by light.
Mintages of 2014 Transformers 4 Lenticular Silver Coins are limited to 5,000 each. They may be purchased directly from the Perth Mint of Australia for AUS $104.55, or about US $97, via http://www.perthmint.com.au.
A three-coin bundle is also available for AUS $286.36 or about $265.04. All option ship with a numbered certificate of authenticity and an illustrated shipper.
