Although I am not completely innocent of this myself, I have noticed in the short time I have been visiting TF message boards, that for the most part, it is one giant bitchfest.
I can think of multiple members of this forum that seem to just jump from topic to topic spreading a cloud of doom over everything and anything.
I actually think the boards lessen the transformers brand, any new member scanning the topics and posts would think that hasbro was putting out some of crappiest collectibles in history.
I often see people who say something positive, get bashed in the subsequent post for what they like. The whole thing stinks of people who arent happy unless others are miserable.
Im not saying that there isnt reason to moan and groan about product once in a while, but it seems to be the dominant voice.
Any thoughts are appreciated, I want the boards to enhance the fandom for transformers, not be some kind of sewing circle where we all bash what we love.
As a side note, dont think I dont see the positive role of the boards, there are many examples of this, but as I said, the dominant voice seems to be negative.

Well, a lot people need to vent. It's easier to vent to someone who agrees with you.
However, I agree that it sux to have someone say something nice only to get dissed later.
Personally, I dislike about everything after G1, however, I don't need to B!tch about it. I just watch everyone else do it. I sit back and enjoy the mayhem.
To this date, I have not seen the movie, doubt I ever will, unless my wife rents it later. I don't like the designs and the abhor ration that the characters have turned into.
However, I know that my opinions are mine alone. I do not force them onto anyone, and if anyone disagrees, let them.
This is the Internet, a bunch of people looking at the same things but with different opinions, it's what makes it go round. If everyone agreed all the time, that would boring. So if there are people who B!tch, let them. If they cross the line(depending on whose line it is), then you should voice up and say so.
That's all.

Thats a smart way to look at it, and the way I adopted when first entering the boards.
Like I said, I see alot of positive, dont get me wrong, and of course, if everyone agreed, it would be quite boring.
Just strange to me to see individuals who collect TF with such passion, but never have a good thing to say about them.

I would agree with this also, I used to post on tfarchive, for guys who post on a TF board, they REALLY seem to hate transformers.
Had to get away from all that negativity, Seibertron is much better but I suppose there always has to be those few who just cant enjoy anything.
I am not talking about people disagreeing, I am all for opinionated people, I am talking about the posters who lurk around dumping crap on everything.
I think some collectors would do themselves alot of good by stepping back and reminding themselves why they started collecting in the first place. If the answer doesnt have something to do with enjoying transformers, then perhaps another hobby would suit them better.

In places, yes, it IS a bitchfest... But isn't that true of every forum? ...It's true of every forum I'VE been to.

Yeah, they're bitchfests, but it's true as well that message boards all over have members who ask stupid questions, who you wanna slap if you meet them in real life, and ya WANNA say something, but you can't, because you've got to be the "Mature" one.

yup, every forums are that way simply because.... people hide behind a screen name. they can say whatever the heck they want and no one can ever find them. but if they were speaking face to face, they wouldnt say any bit of the hate they preach on here. its an easy way to say your opinions with no direct retaliation going back to you. it all depends on morals and respect for this place to be clean, two things a some people dont have.

Not all of them.
The ODB thread, while small compared to the rest of Seibertron.com, is a delightful place to be. I have to say we rarely argue in there. (Maybe cos Insurgent feeds us to chibi Unicron if we do

But that's probably cos we're British, and more refined than the rest of the world. Maybe, just maybe

RE: " TF Boards=bitchfest"
They are what people make of them (and that includes the people in this thread). How many "positive" threads have you guys posted recently?
I will admit that there has been a ton of sensitive topics that have come up in the past month or so that seem to get people going pretty easily. But for every one of those threads, there's something positive like MP3 Soundwave discussions, IDW discussions, Movie sequel discussions, TF:Animated discussions, etc. It all goes back to the glass 1/2 empty or 1/2 full mentality. Don't like the negative threads? Just stay out of them and find the positive threads that you can thoroughly enjoy posting in.

I posted one a while ago... the good things about the movie toys thread.
As for bitch wise...My husband hangs out on a number of forums, not transformers, and they are often bitchfests there.
I have bitched about things before, and I have praised things before. I have also been "slammed" both having an opinion either way.
Even when someone dislikes something, they should not get slammed for being "ungrateful" or be accused of "spreading hate".
I love G1 personally, I grew up on it. But I do enjoy the other series. However I do not like Energon or Beastwars.
Humans as a whole, like to complain and bicker. We are an agressive species. There is a lot of good though, I'd just recommend avoiding the threads that sound particularily bitchy.

I like you. A lot.
Finally someone who is new, and actually gets it. Gets it better than some of us who have been here since the "beginning".
Of course I realize that not everything will go my way (and I wouldn't want it to either.)
I also realize people have the right to bitch and moan (to a certain extent).
I also realize that past a certain point, all the bitching in the world isn't going to fix a thing and all it does is bring scores of negativity with it. Sometimes to the point of ruining it for another person. (and that's a terrible crime.)
And you're right about TFArchive. They've got their heads up their asses so often, that all they spew is sh*t. Which is a shame, because a lot of them are intelligent and articulate and could give excellent conversation material if they wanted. But no, it's easier to bitch and whine and moan constantly and have a police state board where people get the smack down for having individuality.
I used to call another board (which shall remain nameless, gladly) my home away from home. How wrong I was.
Seibertron is my home away from home. Intelligent, fun, and warm people. Open mindedness that welcomes everyone, and you get your chance to say your bit and go from there. Seibertron is, to me at least, *THE* TransFormers board. The rest are pale and cruel knockoffs with people getting their kicks out of playing "Who can we tear down now?" on a constant basis.
Oh no! You have an opinion! Do not pass go! Do not collect $200.00!
...or you can come to Seibertron and enjoy the experience. I know I have.

I am glad that you see TFarchive as I did. It was the first board I joined, after a few months of petty insults and arguments all directed my way because I disagreed on some staples of thought over there, I had enough and cancelled my membership.
Thanks for the compliments Autobot032, Seibertron has become my greener pasture as well.

I also post on Rotten Tomatoes, and while it's nice to discuss the movie with them, I like to come here because of the wider scope of all things Transformers. They bitch a lot on there, too. It's everywhere. We got a flood of newbies after the movie came out and within a few posts they were arguing with one another. Thank god they got bored and left.

The movie's been a double edged sword for us.
On the one hand, our popularity has gone through the roof and new fans are starting to pop up.
On the other hand, they're clogging our happy little world and filling it with people that are generally mean and rude because they don't get it like we do.
Either way, you can't win.
Can't find the toys due to new fans, can't enjoy because n00bs bitch on a constant basis.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Newbies eventually find something else to do. Hey, if I don't like something about Transformers, I like to discuss it, but I respect everyone else's opinions as well. I had a discussion with a comic book store guy about G1. He hates the cartoon and I love it. We are both fans, but we agree to disagree on this issue. Doesn't mean you can't get along.

That's true, I loved the movie myself. I found myself emotional at many points, because of the childhood heartstrings it tugged. I also smiled when I saw a little kid throwing a tantrum in a TRU because he wanted an ironhide.
On the other hand, like Autobot032 mentioned, with the movie, out came the scalpers, out came the noobs, out came A MILLION threads about where to find 08 BB.
Its funny, even though I have no basis for it, I get really annoyed when I see a post like "what energon toys are good?"
Just bugs me for some reason. Like our little world has blown up to the masses, which is great but the personal ownership we all had is somewhat eroded.
Take the good with the bad I guess.

As a side note to my other posts on this subject, I would like to say that the responses to this thread show that I was off base saying that the negative voice on seibertron is the dominant one.

I think in a way its a good thing that the movie has brought some new people to the fold. For while they are waiting for Tf movie #2, they will probably want to watch some of the previous cartoons, and see what its really about. Hopefully they watch either G1 or Beast Wars first, and not some of the other ones.

Well, that's because we're human. There're days you wanna wring someones neck, and days when you wanna have a party. All human nature. Besides, most arguments don't get too big. We're civilized people. The bitch factor is there only because we don't usually see eye to eye. Like me and my opinions on Bonecrusher. But, Transformers is a wide kinda scope topic. I mean really, giant morphin' robots. Seem arguable?
I'm glad we..um..maybe not me included..could help you.
I'm kinda surprised I didn't really read this whole thing through. I like this kid. He got brains.
