I know the original Punch/Counterpunch was a spy in G1 and they are actully the same character with two different robot modes. I have a couple questions about him though.
For one, I can't remember what side he was REALLY on. All I know is Punch = Autobot mode and Counterpunch = Decepticon mode. But what was he really?
My other question is about the Alternator's toy. The Punch robot mode looks like Sideswipe with a face plate. Counterpunch looks like Sideswipe's head on a different body. I'm not too familiar with that particular toy so I was wondering if Sideswipe's mold could really transform like that or are Punch and Counterpunch different toys?

First of all, Punch was an Autobot, period. The Decepticon side is a mere "guise", but a dangerous one. Believe it or not, here is his Marvel bio.
Secondly, both Alt. Punch toys are customs and thus not official. Yes, there's two of them, which you can find here and here. Anyway, the one based on Sideswipe only had a new head and paint job, the trunk does end up on his back like that on the original. I oughta know, 'cause I have BT Lambor

To answer the question about who's side he is on.
In the Japanese TF series Masterforce, he was an

Even though I think you misunderstood the question you still ended up answering the right question.
I was asking if the Punch and Counterpunch were different toys or one toy with 2 robot modes as apposed to "are there two versions of Punch/Counterpunch?"
Straingly enough though I hadn't seen the actual alternators just a little icon of them. The Icon I saw had the head shown in the first link and the body shown in the second.

It was the Headmasters series not Masterforce.
