I'm sure you've probably brought up this issue before but then again maybe not.
Who is Cyclonus? When you watch Unicron reformat the Decepticons you can tell Thundercracker became Scourge but you never tell who became Cyclonus.
Everyone claims it's Skywarp, but clearly when you watch it, it's Bombshell who is reformatted as Cyclonus. How the heck did people get the idea that it was Skywarp. Skywarp was turned into a Cyclonus clone but then disappeared and was replaced by a third sweep.
Who is it? Whats your opinion?

My logic is,
Thundercracker became Scourge and they are both blue.
Skywarp became Cyclonus because they are both purple.
Besides Skywarp is cooler than Bombshell any day of the week, so why shouldn't he become the cool space jet

Bombshell became Cyclonus.
The reports of Skywarp's death were all lies.
LIES!
He's still roaming around out there somewhere... making a living as an intergalactic prankster.

Re: Bombshell or Skywarp!
It really was Bombshell, I also clearly see it happen in the movie.
Skywarp either becomes one of the sweeps or Cyclonus's shortlived "armada" IIRC.
I think people prefer to think it is Skywarp because of the close bond he and Thundercraker shared, and it's nice to think they continued on as partners under Galvatron's reign. It's just dreaming though, it really was Bombshell.

Really though, it's not possible to tell who became who. To side with either outcome is only conjecture. Chalk another one up to the Transformers Legacy Of Inconsistencies.

The Fanboy in me absolutely believes it was Skywarp. There are some definite similarities between Cyclonus's personality and Skywarps, except that Cyclonus seems much wiser. I always attribute that to Unicron's personality merging in there as well.
But if you want the truth, the people behind Transformers didn't really know and/or care. They just needed new characters and wanted to scrap some old ones so they could sell brand new toys.
If you watch the movie closely (and the subsequent season 3 episodes) it was very clear that many times they didn't seem to know who was supposed to be dead or alive or "reformatted"

Re: Bombshell or Skywarp!
Well, Bombshell is in the foreground of that scene, and it certainly looks as if he becomes Cyclonus.
Not sure it really matters though, as the Decepticons Unicron used were dead, except for Megatron.

Re: Bombshell or Skywarp!
Just to throw in my 2 cents.....
Skywarp....
Loyal to megatron (Remember in the first episode, he revived Megatron first)
Oh and he was a Jet
intelligent for most of season 1
Bombshell
Unloyal to Megatron
Not a jet... a BUG
Only wanted to eat....
Cyclonus...
A Jet
LOYAL to Galvatron (Knows that Galvatron is Megatron)
Remember the 5 faces of darkness...
Astrotrain: In the days of Megatron it was not like this...
Cyclonus: YOU MEAN GALVATRON
Astrotrain: Well they were the same guy
Cyclonus: .......
Do you think if Bombshell became Cyclonus he would of had a hard time deciding if the Decepticons should off Galvatron? Remember that episode? Cyclonus couldn't off Galvatron so he took him to some planet to get fixed?
I guarantee you that Bombshell would have shot Megatron ASAP.
I dunno why this debate even rages on... come on folks! This isn't what came first the chicken or the egg.
Plus, if we all assume that Thundercracker became Scourge why wouldn't Skywarp have become Cyclonus?
Also, remember how the Insecticons could clone themselves? Maybe that explains why we have so many sweeps!
Yikes...

Re: Bombshell or Skywarp!
I figure it's moot anyway.
Except for Megatron, it appears that all the Decepticons set adrift had succumbed to their wounds and the harsh conditions of space, effectively dying by the time Unicron found them.
I always figured Scourge & Cyclonus were souless (albeit intelligent) automatons created from raw material - corpses of Decepticon warriors.
Unicron is a being of death; doesn't really make sense for him to create or resurrect life.
Plus, powerful warriors essentially stitched together from dead guys? Way cooler than being apparently amnesic upgrades of old lackeys.

Bombshell became Cyclonus because he was in the foreground and that is who Unicron reformated to be Cyclonus.
Skywarp became either a Sweep or Armada (the clone of Cyclonus), who was as killed by the Dinobots when the Decepticons attacked Autobot City the second time.

Well.... Like I mentioned Earlier.... They remember their past. It was an angle never pursued in the series but the show does make references to them remembering the past.

Example?
Because that quote you gave earlier could just as easily be interpreted as they don't remember their past.
Plus, it would be reasonable, since some of the computer hardware was reused, for them to have some memories of their body donors, but I don't believe that those memories are ever shown to have any significant impact on their actions or behaviors, suggesting that the memories may be vague or limited - perhaps no more than was necessary for optimal, off-the-bat functioning (e.g. knowledge of the war's history, combat tactics, training, enemy capabilities, etc.).

Ok....
Remember Scourge when he runs into Starscreams ghost and yells his name?
In the movie, when starscream asks "Megatron is that you.." to which Galvatron replies "Here's a hint"
In regards to Cyclonus, I haven't seen season 3 in forever but I do remember a couple of instances were it seemed like Cyclonus knew the past.
I mean, if you look at the obvious mannerisms of Cyclonus
Loyal, wants energon to restore Galvatron, believes in the decepticon cause, refuses to turn his back on Galvatron.
If you think those mannerisms are reflective of bombshell well.... I suggest going back and watching some insecticon episodes again.

How does knowing Starscream's name prove that he remembered the past life of the Decepticon(s)' whose remains were used to create him?
Scourge was there when Starscream was killed, and Starscream was fairly infamous. It would be like claiming I'm a reincarnation of Himmler because I recognize a picture of Hitler.
In the movie, when starscream asks "Megatron is that you.." to which Galvatron replies "Here's a hint"
What does that have to do with Scourge and Cyclonus? Megatron was still alive when he was reformed into Galvatron.

I think those mannerisms are reflective of a souless robot programmed by Unicron to serve as Galvatron's bodyguard and right-hand man.

Well, the Universe comics and Fun Publications stories said Cyclonus was Bombshell, so it's at least somewhat official... not that Universe comics ever convince anyone who doesn't agree with them, but I like them.

Re: Bombshell or Skywarp!
I didn't know the Fun Pub comics said that.
I was watching the 2-disk special edition of the 86 Movie the other day. In the extras section, they have profiles of the various characters in the film. Cyclonus' factfile clearly states that he was built from Skywarp.
Before this, I was always in the Bombshell fold. But this is on the official DVD.
Plus as has been stated earlier, Skywarp was closer in personality to Cyclonus than Bombshell who I've always hated.

Re: Bombshell or Skywarp!
In Transformers: Universe - The Wreckers comic book they actually had Skywarp and Cyclonus working side by side, which sorta points to that two of them being different people. When Fun Publications made their text based story which was the final part to that story, they had Skywarp say that he hated Cyclonus and that Cyclonus had once been Bombshell. IN the story Skywarp double crosses Cyclonus and says this:
I think they said Skywarp had recovered his original personality after being made into "Armada", but Bombshell had stayed Cyclonus. Sorta like how Waspinator is Thrust and Silverbolt is Jetstorm. Same spark, different personalities. Bombshell is Cyclonus, Skywarp is Armada.
“What?” Cyclonus said just before Skywarp vanished from his position at the air commander’s right-hand side. He felt the pulse of displaced air erupt behind him a split second before Skywarp’s blasters discharged into his back, sending him staggering forward.
Skywarp rematerialized next to a stunned Tigatron, leveling his blasters again at Cyclonus. “I’ll settle with the zoo crew later. But you… I never liked you. Even when you were a bug I hated your stinkin’ circuits. Like I said, only one guy ever bossed me around, and it sure as slag ain’t you. So guess what? Heheheh… It’s payback time.”

You know what would have been hilarious?
If the Rumble and Frenzy were the only ones with Megatron when Unicron found them.
(Although, the other cassetticons, or Soundwave, reformatted by Unicron might be pretty cool.)

Re: Bombshell or Skywarp!
The Transformers: Universe - The Wreckers is a comic book and text based story released over the course of several years by 3H Enterprises and Fun Publications. They are official stories of what happens after the Beast Machine TV series. It involves several classic characters returning to Cybertron and the Quintessons invading the planet again now that they see it as weak after Megatron's Vehicon rule has ended.
Two of the characters in the Wreckers story are Cyclonus and Skywarp, who both work together with the Autobots at first defending Cybertron from the Quintessons, but then Cyclonus reveals he is secretly working for Cryotek, who in turn is working for the Quintessons. Skywarp pretends to go along with Cyclonus, but then reveals he while he doesn't like the Autobots and Maximals, he's not loyal to the Quintessons either, and he's hated Cyclonus ever since Cyclonus was "a bug". Skywarp also reveals how he was made into "Armada", a drone of Cyclonus who did as commanded, until he recovered his personality recently.
So there you have it, according to this story Bombshell was Cyclonus, and Skywarp was partof his "Armada", and later Skywarp shot Cyclonus for years of being contolled.
Also, to dispute that profile of Cyclonus on the DVD, it was written by fans, not Hasbro licensed writers. It's no more "official" than the fan commentary on the DVD, as far as I'm aware.
