Looking for the best/most authentic reissue of G1 Optimus Prime

Postby emr1005 » Tue Sep 20, 2011 12:47 pm

Hello everyone. I'm pretty new to the forums here so I apoligize if this is covered, I'm sure it is, somewhere else. I'm looking for everyones opinion on what is the best/most authenticate reissue of G1 Optimus Prime. I've looked at several online (Takara Encore #01, Hasbro 25th Anniversay edition, etc.) I just can't decide which one to get. The Takara Masterpiece figures are awesome but I'm looking to spend more like $100-$150 for the best G1 reissue Prime with a trailer.

Thanks in advance and if this is already posted somewhere I'd really appreciate a link to it.

It's totally a matter of opinion. Personally I own a boxed original, so I'm good and done. For myself a reissue would never be as cool as an original from back when.

Luckily, for those who feel different, there's a ton of choices. If I'm correct on this, the new years Takara reissue and the Takara book reissue are favorites. Bring your wallet.

It's that simple."

I bought the 2009 25th Anniversary reissue. The main difference are the printed :BOT: on Prime's arms and the shortened smokestacks. I bought it for arond 80$ brand new, shipping included.
To make him more authentic, you can always put the :BOT: stickers on the printed :BOT: on the arms.
As for the smokestacks, I bought a 10$ modkit for him. These are DIE CAST METAL so they are better than the original! It was a bitch to mod because these arms are full of little gears and springs. That's far from today's simplistic (but oh so efficient) ball-joint!

But if you don't care about the box and you can handle a little play wear, You can always buy a loose original and complete Prime that fit your budjet. Optimus Prime IS NOT RARE. Because he was SO popular. So he's easy to find and relatively affordable.

However, if you are a hardcore collector and money is no object, try to get the REAL ORIGINAL:
M.I.B. Diaclone Optimus Prime with his little mens and everything.

Thank you for your posts RhA & -Kanrabat-! I appreciate the info. Do either of you have an opinion on the Takara Encore 01 Convoy / Optimus Prime?

As far as I know that one is 'just' a reissue. So nothing fancy-pants going on, so maybe that's just what you where looking for?

Thanks...I think that is exactly what I'm looking for. I guess a better title for the thread might have been "Looking for cool G1sh Optimus Prime to stand next to my DOTM, RTS, and Generations Primes"

Will definitely, eventually, try and track down an original prime like I had when I was a kid; as well as the various Masterpiece editions, etc...

Thank you very much for your help!
