When playing a game for the first time, what skill level will you choose? Do you go for the easy play until you get the hang of it, or do you dive right into the deadliest skill level it offers? And when harder skill levels are added (say when you finish the game for the first time), do you rush into those?
I tend toward the easier skill levels at first, but definitely want to try the harder ones. The problem is that, in a lot of these games, you'll keep any profile your character has had, so whatever new abilities, inventory slots, resistances you've gained while playing on the easy level will be passed onto the harder levels, making those harder levels not as hard.

I always like to start at the default "Normal" level. I guess I see it as a way to get a little challenge, but it's not so hard that I'm pulling my hair out trying to get the hang of the game.
I really have to like a game before I'll play it on "Hard" or anything higher.

No preference, as far as skill goes. I prefer to go for the 'hard' level, but usually only in FPS or 3rd person shooter games. Stuff I'm not intimately familiar with, such as RPGs and such, usually go straight into the "normal" category.

I usually start easy.
I want to get into the story and whatever gimmick they're touting as "super fun". Challenges are for later.

Same here. Though I eventually play it again on a higher difficulty once I get the hang of it.

Hard. Though nintendo hard is preferable.
I like my games challenging, and my fits of rage to be with good reason.

I will usually start out on the hardest difficulty allowed then once I unlock the hardest, i go straight for it (for FPS/3rd Person only)
Others will the be one below the hardest just to get the feel of an RPG or RTS, then wham onto the hardest.
