Transformers is the new Star Wars
I haven't been collecting as much as usual in the past year or so because of finances, but the movie sparked my interest so I have been picking up a select few TF's as of late.
Today I went to the local TRU by my job and they were JAMMED full! Total restock last night and the pegs were bursting with new stuff. Not new waves, but a nice selection over the 14 Scorponocks that were there yesterday. They also had Robot Reps. and the Prime Unleashed.
Anyone that lives in the Rockland County area of NY may know of a certain store that sends out "scouts" to round up all the "HTF" and "chase" figures in any given wave. I thought this was solely reserved for SW and Hot Wheels, but today I was greeted to a familiar face loading up two cart loads full of TF's. He took EVERY SINGLE BUMBLEBEE (I figure about 20 or so), ALL of the Blackout/Scorp 2-packs, 4 or so WW Titanium 2-packs and a SLEW of other stuff.
I know the whole "scalper" thing has been addresed a million times in the past, but I've never really seen it with TF's. I guess with all the greatness of these new toys comes all the downsides as well.

Ahh, its like 1999 all over again. Our little niche market of geekdom has become mainstream and we suffer for it. Maybe some of my Clubbing shirts are in style again!

Yup. What made it worse is he was on the phone with his bug-eyed boss describing stuff and asking how many. Then at the end of the phone call he said, "...and Robovision Optimus from Target, right?"
I woulda said something, but I'm sure he sleeps well at night and could care less what I think.

Why would some grab all the Bumblebees, especially with the well-known defect in the first run? That's one of the few TF's around here in plentiful stock.
Personally, I would have messed with that scalper, but that's just me.

its the internet sales they are looking for, especially those Canadian Fans in the out lying areas whose without a great toy outlet. My cousin moved up there last year, he has to order all his Transformers online.
I hate scalpers!!! they are the worst sort of person ever, they buy the toys at shelf price and when the local demand is highest, they sell them on consignment in comic shops for 300% mark up, or put them online with a "Buy it now" 300% mark up, its rediculous!!
Incidentally, stay away from "Playadia" on ebay, their prices are freaking unbelievable!!! Not, surprisingly, they have a huge instock of Transformers figures..go figure?? I just hope they don't weonder why their toys aren't selling... Duhhh... its the price!!! too high!!!
Yes Mecha is the way of the future of Sci Fi, Star Wars has been replaced.

Actually they were the revised BB's I had one in my hand before he took it. I dont think they cared anyway.
Ive been in this store and the prices are INCREDIBLE and they always have exclusives from TRU/Walmart/Target in stock. I cab bet they have those BB's prices at $24.99 beleive it or not. I've seen NEW release figures there priced at $60 or more.

He took it out of your hand?
This store you talk of reminds me of a store back in Dayton called TAF. The guy goes around buying all of the chase figures, then sells them for 5 times the market price. For example, he was selling Alt. Wheeljack for $100, and Cybertron Soundwave for almost $150.

After many weeks looking I finally stumbled across the Real Movie Voice Optimus voice changer mask. I didn't think they existed after a while, LOL! Everywhere has always been the regular ones.
I can't seem to find the robovision Optimus anymore though which is a bummer. I would like to have that.
It's the forst time in at least over a year or two since I really went out buying toys. Star Wars was getting too ridiculous in all the variants and re-releases I gave up and just sold them all off for pretty cheap. I LOVE these transformers. They are actually fun to dink with every once in a while. I never stopped liking transformers, but I just didn't like when they turned to Beast Wars and Armada.... G1 style is what always kept me going and I am very pleased with the movie toys thus far, though I wish Optimus and Megatron Leader Class where more chromed finish and not that cheap plastic grey look it has.

i dont know about TFs, but when the ps3 and the wii came out, the day after release there were about 50 of them in the paper for around 2 grand each. Scalpers are scum, i know theyre just making a living but come on do they have to do it at the expense of others??

I've been outbid by "Playdia" three times on E-Bay, including auctions for Ravage X-9 twice. What he/she/it charges for some TF's are unreal. He/She/It should take the hint that if a toy hasn't moved in a year, it's probably not going to move until you lower the price.
