does collecting transformers make you an addict?
in what way does collecting transformers a healthy habbit, but when it becomes out of control, it may becomes an addiction. is it safe to say collecting transormers or other collectables is just like someone becoming addicted of smoking or playing videogames. how can you balance it out, but still will not make you become an addict and can spent quality times with ones family.

When collecting Transformers gets in the way of your life and starts to cause harm to you, it's an addiction.
So, if you collect spending what you can afford and it doesn't hurt anyone it's harmless. However, if you're spending your food money or rent on Transformers, then it's an addiction.

You don't become an addict with Transformers, you become an addict at spending money!

I'm an addict as in not just buying toys, but thinking about them. I always have them on my mind. I always want to buy a new TF toy but I know when to hold back. When I'm at work, I feel down sometimes when I don't have them near or something related to them near. Like my sig says, it's my life. Everyone has they're degree. Some are just higher then others. I rather be addicted to TF then something else that could get me killed or something. My hobby makes me happy!!

Long live the Decepticons!! I love G1 Starscream!!
Don't tell Starscream, but I'm in love with movieverse Ironhide!
Current TF count: 255 (and growing)

Assembling powerful squadrons of Autobots and Decepticons is my life. Although I haven't gotten around to the Decepticons yet (my only one is Blackout)

but does the hobby makes you a stronger better person or it just makes you a very spoiled individual completely.
i guess most people doesn't understand my question in that sense. what i meant is can you control the impulsive urge if one of your love ones tell you not to buy one, and you can live with that from listening to what they say and wouldn't sneak out and buy one anyway.

well in one way i sometimes lie to my lovedones because im afraid that they will get mad (sob) when they found out that i got a new toy because it's just that some parents are not supportive enough to your hobby if they are facing financial problems huhu... but i can still control my urge to use all my money on buying toys...

Most the time when I bring in my new hauls home (ml, dc direct, etc), I hide them from my parents. Not because I'm ashamed of my hobbies, but because they will bitch at me for how much I spend. The bitching doesn't really bother me too much but its just easier to hide them, lol.
I don't think there is anything wrong with a hobby becoming addictive. They're are always going to be good and bad addictions and I definitely rank toy collecting in the good addiction column.
I have started to think about transformers a lot in the past couple days. I just think about how bad ass my display will look once I compile an armada of Autobots and Decepticons and I try to think about how the battles would end. I dunno if that makes me strange or not, but it makes the day at work go by faster.

I secretly collect dust.
All my Transformers are really secret dust pedestals.
I might be addicted. Shhh, don't tell.

According to the DSM IV (i'm a psychology student until i finish my degree in 2 weeks) , if a person cannot live life happily, as in, by meeting all their responsibilities and such, and failing to live their life as they would want to, then you would have a problem. As sigmund freud i believe it was said "[If you can work and love, you're fine]"

Collecting anything in general makes someone somewhat fanatical and obsessive and yup, addicted. It just comes with the territory.
Here's a fantastic take on what it means to be a collector of anything--words like this never rang truer to me:
