I know he is really supposed to be a white Prime, but I always preferred him in his exosuit/outer layer or whatever it is so that he doesn't look like Prime.
So, if you had to pick one, Titanium UM or the re-issue?

I don't recall there ever being a G1 cartoon accurate UM. There was the G1 UM toy, but he was essentially a rolling brick with very little articulation, and only resembled the G1 toon UM. I am perhaps one of the few who like him as a white version of Prime. I don't know why, I jus do. He simply looks better that way to me. I simply love the Classics UM Semi.

the thing is though that the toy Magnus came first. The cartoon character was based upon the toy, not the other way around. Besides the question is which is more G1 accurate, not "toon" accurate. Secondly, the coloration on the Titanium Magnus is off, particularly on the torso.

-If the question is meant which toy figure is the most G1 accurate to the 1986 toy figure, then of course it's the 2001 Takara Reissue.
My instinct just like kkl1014, suggested that he meant which UMagnus figure is the most accurate to the cartoon. If that's the case:
- The transformable figure that mostly accurated to UMagnus in the cartoon in robot mode is Titanium UMagnus - hand down. He features blue eye, open chest plate to reveal the Matrix chamber, visible cab head light, blue waist w/ white belt clip, white thigh, autobot logo at the shoulder. These are all the major elements of cartoon Ultra Magnus which the Titanium UMagnus has while the 1986/reissue fails to have.
- The transformable figure mostly accurated to UMagnus in the cartoon in term of vehicle mode is the Masterpiece UMagnus. Missile launcher at the side of the trailer just like the cartoon. Nuffs said.
- Regardless transformable or not, but the figure that represent the mostly accurate to the cartoon UMagnus in robot mode is either the Takara UMagnus PVC or the Hard Hero UMagnus bust. All of UMagnus elements are captured very true to the UMagnus cartoon. From the thin bar chest plate, to the correct Autobot logo at only the right shoulder, to detailing. If anyone want to learn on how to draw UMagnus elements/ references correctly, then these two figures are it.
To sum it up, for G1 toy accuracy I would pick the Takara 2001 Reissue and for cartoon accuracy I would pick the Titanium UMagnus.

Wow. I never realized that Ultra Magnus was a white Prime in armor.
Somehow this makes me want him more. Battle armor is awesome. But looking at the picks it seems like original ULtra Magnus has like no articulation.

Actually...Powered convoy came first. They repainted him with the colors we know to day as G1 Ultra Magnus for the movie. If they didn't, we would have gotten a blue cab for the main part of the body

Thanks all. Yeah I meant toon accurate, sorry about that. Well I don't really have the money for a re-issue now, so I'll hold off. But I'll keep a lookout for the Titanium too.

He doesn't have much articulation. Just in the arms. It's pretty much a brick. which was common for the time period. The Ultra Magnus toy and character was based off of the Powered Convoy toy from Takara's Diaclone line. Hasbro changed the colors to white cab with red and sky blue trailer. This was the final color scheme that was used for the movie. Thus, the cartoon character was based off the toy which was based off the Diaclone toy. Ultimately, the G1 reissue toy is still the most accurateb ecause it is a direct reissue of the original G1 toy. IF you want to make that more "toon" accurate, get the Reprolabels set for him.
