What an arse. Is he just being a plane bag of garbage or is he actually trying to raise the prices so high that he wins the lots?

I have a theory about underground ebay rings run by some people you would never want to see in an alley. They bid up items to raise market prices. I have never been able to confirm it- just a theory.

Could be one of those people who have multiple accounts, and if the prices on items they are selling from one account are not high enough, they bid with one of their other accounts to "win" the bid.
Then they re-list the item and try again.
Then they re-list the item and try again.
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

Have you reported to Ebay? You should. They could check the user IPs, never konw they could all be the same.

Why would he do that if he already has a reserve? If no one reaches his reserve price, there would be no sale, and he could re-list the item anyway, right?

Looks like they wanted to up the price but not start it that high because Ebay charges more the higher the starting price.
What they are doing is pretty easy to do automatically... they use sniping software that only bids the increments. When one account gets outbid, the other account automatically bids the next increment higher until it reaches the set maximum bid.
I really think they are only trying to get passed the listing fees as that is the only reason that makes sense to me.

Ok, you are all gonna feel really dumb when UI point this out.
There isno underground ebay ring and no bots spamming bids and noone testing the reserve price.
Actually, ebay changed their policy on how bid history is displayed. The only people who can see who is bidding is the bidder and the seller. All other names will appear as anonymous. Thus Bonger would appear as B***R.
Here is what ebay says right at the top of the bid history page:
"eBay has changed how bid history information is displayed for higher-priced items. To help keep the eBay community safe, enhance bidder privacy, and protect our members from fraudulent emails, only you and the seller of the item can view your User ID in bid history. Other member will see anonymous names."
Bonger FTW bitches!!

Yeah they changed the anonymous scheme again...pretty funny. Figured it out later as well- after I posted . I still like my ebay ring theory- I bet one exists

Bonger already explained what's going on but what you theorized isn't allowed. eBay keeps a pretty sharp eye on schill bidding. For what you said to work out you'd have to be able to bid with a unique ID that also does not have an IP address that is associated with the ID that listed the item. A guy I work with got banned for a week for trying to schill bid one of his items while he was at work. The problem is he had already accessed his eBay account from work and eBay caught him. Was that convoluted enough for everybody?
Anyways, is Shockwave really worth $220+?
P.S. I hate people who list items with a reserve price. It's stupid and I won't even pay attention to an item that has one.
